One type of horse show is the Arabian horse show. Participants include a master of ceremonies who coordinates the classes and keeps everything going. The judges rate and rank each horse and select the winners. Stewards are tasked with enforcing the rules, and it’s not just horses that misbehave sometimes! Most often, officials are licensed by the American Horse Show Association, the governing body for most American horse shows.

Arabians Horse shows are good to see because these horses are well known for their ability to display their skills during competition. If you think your horse has the skill, the action, and appears to be a winner, the best way to find out is to enter a horse show. You could go home with some ribbons or even a trophy. Keep in mind that horse shows are offered at many levels, from beginner to professional.

A very good horse show to attend is a horse show that is a WSCA qualifying show. All WSCA shows are run to a comprehensive rule book and must adhere to its recommendations for show committees. When you attend or compete, you’ll be assured that the most important aspects of running a show, including choosing and hiring judges, are competently covered. Theirs is to make sure the results are fair, because everyone wants to make sure talent gets the recognition it deserves. You can even check the WSCA judge list on their website. You will also find the WSCA rules for classes and team regulations in the rule book. All of this is done without any heavy-handed involvement from the WSCA itself. The WSCA does not approve shows, it approves judges and rules from the WSCA rule book.

Go to a horse show and make sure you know the correct names of the horses in the show. Boy horses are colts, geldings, or stallions. The females are mares or fillies. It would sound pretty silly if you went to a show without knowing these names, or even in the yard or stable called them horses or horses. It would be like he didn’t even know the proper terminology for the sexes of horses!

If you’re going to a horse show, you’ll need the right gear to bring and wear. You will need to wear your riding attire and the color and style will vary depending on the type of event you are participating in. I bring a sheet for my horse and polo/foot coats, but that’s not everyone’s preference. I also bring splint boots. I have special show brushes that I keep clean. Other things that are pretty essential are fly repellant and glitter. I take shampoo even if I only go to a one day show. But that’s because my horse is mostly white and always gets dirty in the trailer.

A lunge rope is useful for getting the extra money out. Plus, I take my course, with an extra halter and leash in case the others snap. Also the rags are great for cleaning the horse and equipment. A first aid kit for the horse and rider is also great. I keep thinking of more and more things, I don’t think the list ends!
