If you’re a student in Reading, it’s important to know that there are lots of different housing options available. Whether you want to live with your friends in a house, flat or student halls or you’d like to have your own apartment in the city centre, there’s plenty of choice for you. There’s also a variety of different accommodation near the University of Reading, including the London Road and Whiteknight campus.

Gender Inclusive Housing (GIH) provides students with a room/suite/apartment-mate option that does not require all residents to be of the same legal sex. This community is open to all students and provides a safe space for individuals who identify as male, female, or nonbinary/gender neutral. Students wishing to select gender inclusive housing should select this option during the online housing application and may request either same or opposite-gender roommates when prompted on the roommate matching page. Please note that selecting this option does not guarantee you will be assigned a Gender Inclusive apartment or suite during the room selection process in June.

During room selection in the fall semester, all new students will be asked to select the housing type that best fits their lifestyle and academic goals. During this process, students can choose a traditional single-gender or Gender Inclusive housing option. Regardless of their selection, all students are placed into a community and will be assigned to a specific room/suite/apartment within the specified building.
