What do you give the teenager who has everything? What about the teenager you don’t know very well? Gift exchanges are becoming more popular than ever at teen Christmas parties. Often these gifts need to be within a certain price range (usually quite cheap), but you also want them to be something others will enjoy. Here are some gift ideas that should appeal to any teen.
Great Gifts for Teen Girls: It’s usually very easy to find inexpensive gifts that appeal to teen girls. Think cosmetics. Lip glosses (especially flavors like Lip Smackers) are always popular, and you can usually find them in cute gift sets at drugstores. Anything from Bath and Body Works is also a good bet. Can’t decide on a fragrance? Get a $10 Bath and Body Works gift card, so the lucky girl can choose whatever she wants. Looking for something a little different? Fill a gift bag with some cute hair accessories and your must-have hair product. If you love it, chances are others will like it too! For something especially fun and individualized, try nail stickers! Amazon has a set of 100 fimo sticks in different designs for under $8. You may also want to add a packet of nail glue to the gift bag, so your recipient can get the most out of the gift.
GREAT GIFTS FOR TEEN GUYS: Sometimes it’s harder to find gifts for the teenage boy in your life. A sure thing is anything electronic, although electronics can be expensive. Look for cheap Xbox games. There are some that sell for $10 or less at Walmart, like Sega Superstar Tennis. Or how about a new pair of headphones? These things are cheap, but popular, and are always lost or broken. Most teens could always use an extra pair or two. Walmart also has fabulous Timex digital sports watches for $12, so if your gift’s price limit is $10, you can cheat just a little and no one will know the difference. Another great gift for teens is any of the Ax body spray gifts. Amazon has a great travel set with body spray, shampoo, and shower gel for under $9. Or look for the latest comic book or auto trade or technology magazine. Buy a few and wrap them together for an even better gift.
The holidays are a great time to give gifts, but these gift ideas will work well for any time of the year and for any occasion. So grab this list, grab your cash or debit card, and start shopping!

All over the world, especially in the West, where people tend to be larger and heavier than the normal average person, millions of people are wondering how to lose belly fat. Surprisingly, an increasing number of men are concerned about having bellies that hang above the waist. A flat six pack is a sign of good health and a measure of sexual prowess, which is why more and more men are working hard to achieve it. Unfortunately, many are doing the wrong exercises or eating the wrong foods that aren’t helping them in their quest for ripped abs.
Combine cardio and strength training
A good exercise regimen that includes a variety of exercises would be the best way to start. This should include sixty minutes of cardio to increase your metabolic rate every other day, interspersed with forty-five minutes of strength training. Cardiovascular exercises include but are not limited to walking, running, cycling, as well as a variety of exercises that can be done in a gym including rowing, cross training, and aerobics that get your heart racing and blood pumping. Doing numerous sit-ups, crunches, and other abdominal exercises will not get rid of your lower abdomen but will only toughen it up. The secret is to combine fat burning cardio with strength training and abdominals to get that lean and flat stomach that will be the envy of many. Don’t expect instant results! Keep up and stick with your routine and you’ll be well on your way to the abs of your dreams.
Don’t forget about yoga
Other new age exercises that help get rid of belly fat include Hata Yoga and Vajrasana exercises that involve controlled body movements to achieve results. However, it is best to do it under the guidance of a professional instructor, as some of these moves can be harmful for a novice. Full-body movements that involve the legs, such as leg raises, where one lies on the floor and raises the legs 90 degrees, also help to trim the waistline, as it engages the lower abdominal muscles in an effort to maintain balance.
Variety is the spice of life
Martial arts like kickboxing, karate, and taekwondo help develop and maintain a flat stomach. Various types of vigorous dance, such as belly dancing, work wonders to help get rid of belly fat and are fun to learn and do. One can join a local class that offers these exercises or purchase instructional videos and learn in the privacy of one’s home. However, cardiovascular exercises alone will not help you lose fat. One must incorporate some level of strength training that involves lifting weights at least three times per week. This is because muscle burns fat, so when your body gains muscle, it burns fat even when you’re not exercising!
It’s important to note that lower belly fat takes the longest to go away and you’ll notice the rest of your body gaining shape and tone while the pot remains. Don’t give up, but stick with the program. Remember that perseverance pays and to break the monotony and avoid boredom, vary the type of exercises you do and soon you will be showing off your abs on the beach.

California taxes fall into three different categories such as property taxes, income taxes, and sales taxes. The first one that is highlighted is the income tax, since it is paid on personal income and varies according to the size of the property. There are six different tax bands and the first $6,622 of income will have one percent tax deducted, and this rate increases to around two percent when the new tax bands are between $6,000 and $15,000.
The third overdue tranche is the one in the range of $15,000 to $24,000 and the rate for this is four percent. And as the tranches go up, so does the percentage by two percent and when it gets to nine or ten percent, then it’s payable. Is there a one percent surcharge for income over $1 million, making it the highest income margin tax rate in the state of California? The presentation of your tax returns must be made before April 15 of each year, they must be made in the following forms: form 540A, form 540, form 540EZ and also form 540-ADS.
If couples are going to file the returns due together, the tax brackets will double, the sales tax issue is very different throughout California. In 2002, the rate was about 7.24 percent and included state taxes, local taxes, and also county taxes, and the state component is about 6.25 percent and can vary by state.
How internalized emotions turn into physical pain

We all internalize things, situations or even people differently. It cannot be poured from an empty cup. My husband has been telling me this continuously because it was a very difficult lesson for me. It’s still a bit hard for me and most days I have to make a dedicated effort to remember it. I spent most of my life putting the needs of others before my own. I was always proud of the fact that he cared so much for others, because in my mind, that meant that he was a good person and I could look in the mirror every day and feel good about myself.
Now let’s look at the other side of the spectrum… looking at other points of view of a situation is very difficult because most people only want to see one side of things. Some, because they feel so passionate about their side that they can’t be open enough to at least try to see another point of view. Others, because seeing another point of view would show another a very uncomfortable truth that they may not be prepared to see.
This is what I mean: I used to truly believe and be happy with who I was; caring and making sure everyone I loved was okay. Now mind you, I’m not saying this isn’t a lovely way to be because I think it is. But, taking care of everyone before myself, can you guess who wasn’t taken care of? While making sure everyone else was okay, I spent all my time, effort, money, and love on someone else. At the end of the day, week, or even month, I didn’t have a lot of time for myself. At the end of the day, I internalized that I wasn’t as important as everyone else in my life.
I have talked a lot about the Law of Attraction and I believe this to be true. Our brains are much more powerful than we can comprehend at times. It is your brain that can and will dictate what is presented to us with our thoughts alone. And not just our thoughts, but our perceptions. Just as like attracts like in thoughts, if you perceive these thoughts to be negative, you are attracting more perceived “negativity” into your life.
Have you ever noticed a situation unfolding with two very different people and two very different opposite reactions? Perhaps a person reacted calm, cold and collected; the other person would go crazy and create a snowball effect of negativity in her world that day. Here’s an example: a person sitting in traffic who doesn’t really move, is very angry and in a bad mood, and now, for the rest of the day, that negativity builds up and grows as other negative things happen, like the copier. broken when you get to work, or your food cold when you get it. Meanwhile, the other person is stopped in traffic and enjoys some alone time. This person understands that there is nothing she can do about it, so maybe dancing and singing to his favorite song is just what he does. Taking a negative situation and putting a positive spin on it is very difficult, but also very liberating.
It’s really not a question of who in that situation is right and who is wrong, but that you see that your brain can and does internalize everything. And your brain also internalizes things that you perceive to be right or wrong. If we could stop judging ourselves and others, and allow each experience in front of us to help us grow and become more grounded, then we would be in better health. Just as your brain attracts to you what you internalize, without you realizing it, so does your body. Your body is no different. Your body also gives you little signs that something is wrong on a daily basis. Most people are so used to ignoring these signs that they can’t even see them now. When you internalize these negative emotions and hold them there, they settle in your body as aches and pains. Eventually, after your body has been screaming at you for quite some time, it begins to create disease.
Any discomfort, pain or tension in certain areas of the body often has to do with the emotions that you keep inside of you. This may sound very silly, but it’s because most people just aren’t in touch with what’s going on in their body. I can tell you without a doubt that this is certainly true as I have personally experienced it. It was through much counseling and reading and wishing to heal myself that I realized this was true. Growing up in a home where children were seen and not heard, one might internalize my idea that their voice and opinion didn’t matter. That same child can learn to live quietly and never have an opinion for most of his life. It is that same child who would end up later in life with thyroid cancer.
Now, some may choose to see right and wrong in that situation, in judgment, but again, judgment is not necessary, nor is it the point. Others may choose to have a better understanding and see the big picture; that any internalized negative emotion will lead to aches, pains, and even disease if internalized long enough. Being that kid I just talked about, I now make a dedicated effort every day to speak my truth, no matter how I feel it will be received. I choose not to live in the right or wrong of a situation in judgment, but to learn the lesson and know my own worth. This is a difficult task, not only for me, but for many.
Here are some pains that are directly related to emotions that we can recognize and help us heal:
Headache
Many times, a headache means being overwhelmed. If you were to acknowledge that you are overwhelmed and find a healthy and constructive way to get through it, you would easily get over it. Do you love to cook, write, dance or paint? Do one of those things that you love and give it back some well-deserved time for your relaxation. Take some time for yourself to do a relaxing meditation. Let yourself know that you deserve it and that you are worth it!
Neck Pain
The physical symptoms of neck pain have to do with disc disease or osteoporosis. Whenever these symptoms appear, you may be holding on to an emotional fear of life or insecurity. Perhaps these emotions are helping you to be stubborn and inflexible. If this is something you recognize, try to make a conscious effort to see the other side of the situation and understand that there is no right or wrong, just lessons that help you grow and become more grounded and healthy.
Shoulder pain
The physical symptoms of shoulder pain can tell you that you are holding the weight of the world on your shoulders and not taking the time to care for yourself. Shoulder pain can appear because it represents our personal ability to experience life with joy and gratitude; not a burden Try to learn the lesson and grow. Take time for yourself and the well-being of your mind, body and spirit!
upper back pain
Upper back pain is usually portrayed as feelings of lack of emotional support. Feelings of not being loved or not being loved enough come up and this is a reminder that we are in charge of our own happiness. We need to remember that at the end of the day, WE are responsible for our own happiness. Go and get what you want, no matter how uncomfortable you feel. Because you deserve at least that and much much more!!
Half Back Bread
Middle back pain usually represents itself as feelings of guilt or simply being stuck in the past. Once again, this is a reminder to view the situation, not by placing blame, or right and wrong, but for the growth of your own happiness at this time.
lower back pain
The physical symptoms of low back pain may show up as sciatica, pelvic disorders, kidney stones, or colon problems. These symptoms can appear when you are afraid or lack financial support. Any pain in this area can keep you in a constant state of fear, because now you may be thinking, “What if I can’t work because of this?” Do you see this snow globe? It could be catastrophic if you are the person who will allow it. Again, listen to your body and find the source of this pain. Take care of yourself to do what needs to be done, so that you can release these emotions that are bringing pain to your body.
Knee pain
Knee pain occurs when we cannot bend or become inflexible on certain issues, feelings, or emotions. Again, remember that there are two very different types of people in the world, and three sides to every story; At the end of the day, none of these things really matter. It doesn’t matter who is right or who is wrong or even what has happened. Our happiness is what truly matters. It is only what we take in and learn from these situations, and how we love ourselves in the end that will keep us healthy and whole.
Hip pain
Hip pain is a sign of indecision; being afraid to make an important decision and move on. First, think about the worst that could happen if you make the wrong decision. You may need to start over. This can be a huge thing for some, but for others it’s a great learning experience, because they were able to remain positive. It’s all a matter of perception. Make it a great learning experience for yourself and learn to trust your gut. In most cases, you’ll find that you had the right answer all along, but you didn’t trust yourself enough to take the first step. Fear is one thing that will keep us in a state of imbalance which is what creates disease. I love you enough to trust you!
ankle pain
Ankle pain denotes emotions of inflexibility and guilt. This is a direct representation of the ability to receive or not receive pleasure. Again, sometimes we just need to remember how important our happiness is. We need to remind ourselves every day to take well-deserved time for ourselves and our well-being.
I started here with “You can’t pour from an empty cup!”, and while I believe this to be true, I still have to work every day to remember this and try to continue to remove some of the negativity that I have allowed. stay in me and in my body. This is a work in progress for myself to go beyond my definition of each experience and use those experiences to move into a state of consciousness so that I can keep myself and my body grounded in the here and now and stay healthy. . Old habits are hard to die, but all we can do is learn from the experiences we’ve had and do the best we can for ourselves every day. Learn and work every day to keep your mind, body and spirit in a balanced state! This is what keeps you healthy and whole~!
“If someone wishes for good health, he must first ask himself if he is ready to end the reasons for his illness. Only then is it possible to help him.”

Are you facing biting problems with your Beagle? Read on for tips on how to control biting in Beagles of different ages.
People would definitely like to have an energetic but obedient Beagle as a pet. However, they are often faced with a situation where the dog attacks a human being. They then decide to learn how to stop Beagles from biting. A dog may adopt a defensive posture at first and bite only in retaliation, but it soon becomes an unpleasant habit that causes stress for the dog owner and family members. The behavioral trait can become dangerous, if neglected. The only solution is to face the problem head on, regardless of the age of the dog.
Training the Beagle as a puppy
The Beagle is most adaptable as a puppy, and if you identify behavioral traits like biting, it can be rectified. The training time that lasts almost 6 months presents dog owners with the best opportunity to reverse the negative traits. Instinctive behavior like biting develops in the wild, which can be reversed as a puppy in a home environment.
A puppy may bite gently, which may force some dog owners to overlook biting as a problem. Teething or playful nature may not always be the only reasons a puppy starts to bite. He may be trying to establish his position as the Alpha leader of the pack. Aggressive behavior can start with baring teeth threateningly. If you really want to learn how to prevent beagles from biting, do behavior corrections as a puppy when he’s most willing to learn.
You can use several ways to help your puppy kick the biting habit. He tries to follow the same behavior that other pups adopt with their mother and littermates. Restraining the dog, making a whimpering noise when bitten, or replacing his toe with a toy for him to chew on are good starting techniques. The idea is to make sure the dog understands that biting people is not acceptable. If initial efforts to teach your puppy fail, you can always hire a trainer or enroll the pup in an obedience training center.
Beagles training at one year of age
Initial tolerance towards biting and biting as a puppy can have serious consequences down the road. In an attempt to assert himself in the home, the dog grows up learning to bite whenever he needs to take control. By the time he is one year old, the dog is aggressive.
Here are some tips. Learning to prevent beagles from biting starts with avoiding physical play with the dog. Stop playing tug of war, wrestling, or other games that require domination.
Also, do not allow the dog to run freely throughout the house. Set limits. Restrict their movement to defined areas using a crate, if verbal commands don’t work. Obedience training techniques used consistently help reverse negative behavior traits in yearling dogs.
Prevent beagles from biting later
You may find yourself unable to train your Beagle effectively at times. It may continue to bite well into adulthood. There is an inherent danger that the dog will turn against the master if he is allowed too many liberties, especially if his role as alpha male is threatened.
A professional dog obedience trainer should be consulted as soon as possible because your Beagle will not hesitate to bite strangers or even family members when provoked.
A training program that teaches you how to prevent beagles from biting is most effective when the dog is still a puppy. Most dogs easily outgrow the biting habit at a young age with proper training.

What is business litigation and how can a business litigation attorney help a business deal with it?
Commercial litigation is a legal recourse to the court of law to resolve a commercial problem between two parties or a matter related to the breach of a commercial law.
Litigation can significantly strain a company’s finances. The commercial litigation attorney advises clients to minimize litigation risks to reduce dispute resolution costs and conserve valuable time and resources. Business litigation often poses a threat to a company’s ongoing operations and jeopardizes its financial security.
A business litigation lawyer can also save your company a lot of money when seeking resolution through mediation, arbitration, or other alternative dispute resolution means.
The best business lawyer can help companies navigate the murky waters of corporate law. Government agencies usually set their own rules that govern how businesses are supposed to act. Keeping track of all the rules that different government agencies have put in place can be confusing. That is where the business lawyer can help you make sure that your business follows the rules set by government agencies. Failure to comply with these rules can result in expensive fines.
Commercial litigation attorneys represent business and financial institutions in the following areas:
– Commercial errors
– Class actions
– Financial forensic analysis
– Complex contracts
– Government investigations
– Professional relations
– Resolution of international disputes
– Real estate disputes
– Values and defense of competition
– Technology and intellectual property
– Professional malpractice
– Shareholder and corporate governance
As you can see, business law revolves around many areas where competent business attorneys can help you avoid and resolve serious problems.
Do you tend to ignore your corporate record-keeping responsibilities and hope only for the best? Does keeping your corporate minute book complete and up-to-date seem relatively unimportant and too easy to overlook? If so, you may be at risk of being involved in litigation and not even knowing it until you are fully involved in it. Hire a business litigation lawyer to find out how you can reduce the risk of litigation for your business.
6 Very Powerful Body Language Signals for Flirting and Sexual Attraction

In the game of sexual attraction, what you say is not as important as what your body says. In fact, if you’re that good at silent speech, you can say a lot more with your body than words can do for you.
This is how you do it.
1. Eye contact triangulation
First you need to draw attention to yourself. That can be accomplished by fiddling with your neck, necklace, or earring, or dusting off your sleeve or shoulder, just to name a few. After you get their attention, hold their gaze for about 3 seconds, break eye contact down to get their nose, lips, and chin.
Triangulated eye contact communicates a desire to get to know the other person more intimately (and I’m not talking about “sexual” people!). Keep in mind that while men generally aren’t bothered by prolonged eye contact with a strange woman (in fact, they crave it, especially if she’s stunningly beautiful), women, on the other hand, tend to get quite irritated by stares. long periods of unknown men (even large ones). those who look).
Also beware of cultural differences.
2. Flash of eyebrows
Eye contact with a flash of eyebrows followed by a smile has an even more powerful effect.
Make eye contact, hold their gaze for about 3 seconds, and break eye contact down (very briefly). When you look up again, take note of the chin, lips, nose, and up to the eyes. Add the eyebrow flare and smile.
The message you want to send is “I was just being polite at first… but now that I’ve had a good look at it… OH-WOW!”
Shy people can do this much better than the more aggressive type because subtlety and modesty come naturally to shy men and women.
3. Eye-catching
Once you have their attention and the conversation is flowing, use your fingers to draw attention to their eyes and keep their gaze focused on you, and only you. This is especially important when the exchange takes place in cramped or crowded conditions.
Lightly touch your nose or gently rub your cheek making sure your index finger touches the area around the outer corner of your eye; your other fingers pointing when touching the mouth area. This says, “Look, we’re having a conversation here.” To create maximum rapport, be sure to maintain eye contact when the other person is speaking, then when their gaze begins to wander, bring it back by directing your eyes to their eye and mouth area.
Another thing you can do is hold your face with both hands with your chin resting on your palms and your elbows on the table. Gently rub the area around the outer corners of both eyes with your index or middle finger; the other fingers are slightly extended in a semicircle around your face. This gives the illusion of a whisper or secret being shared. Very intimate!
And if you wear glasses, take them off slowly, rub your eyes very briefly, and put them back on. But please make sure it’s not so obvious. And don’t get red-eyed because the apple of your eye has its attention drawn to the guy or girl across the room. You have to make the conversation interesting too, not just desperately try to mechanically meet her gaze.
4. Sideways glance
This is best accomplished when you walk away from or sit with your back to the person you want to be attracted to. Look slowly behind you with your eyelids partly closed, but look down the moment you notice. This fall of gauze must be very brief. Look up triangulating your eye contact starting at the chin, lips, nose and working up to the eyes. Smile.
Moistening your lips while looking down increases sexual tension.
For women, the sidelong glance combined with a toss of hair and parted lips can be very powerful. For men this with the brow flash is devastating! But you do need a bit of masculine confidence not to look creepy.
5. The crossed leg (only women)
Intertwined legs draw attention to body balance and give the impression of high muscle tone. Crossing and uncrossing your legs while an interested man is looking at you is a strong sign of attraction, especially when you simultaneously maintain eye contact, tilt your head to the side, and caress or rub a knee.
The problem here is that the type of men you are most likely to attract with this move are horny men, yes, the hit and run type! So unless you really know the guy and have checked his stats, keep your feet on the ground and together.
And if you’re in a relationship or even married, these body language moves can do wonders for your sexual chemistry. And when combined with prolonged eye contact and stroking a cylindrical object such as the stem of a wine glass, a straw, a pen, a pencil or a cigarette… Aiyaiyaiyiayai! Houston, we have a problem”.
6. The Cowboy Hook (men only)
This “I’m all man!” Dominant posture requires more masculine confidence to achieve. He works with his thumbs tucked into the belt and the other fingers resting on the sides of the thighs framing the groin area (did I mention this requires more masculine confidence?).
You can also achieve the same effect (or close) by leaning against a door frame or wall with one hand, the other hand in your pocket, thumb sticking out and pointing you-know-where.
Any hand gesture that draws attention to the groin area shows great sexual and social confidence. A lot depends on whether the woman in question approves of a caveman’s approach.
Will any of these communication gestures with the eyes and the body give you the man or woman of your dreams?
Not necessarily. Personally, I don’t think the mechanical gestures of body language, as simple and flawless as they are, can do anything for you other than boost your confidence and get the sexual energy flowing in your body. At the end of the day, it’s the confidence vibes coming from you that initiate sexual attraction. Body language can only jump-start the already existing sexual chemistry. If you can use body language to cause a chain reaction, you’re halfway there!
And just as it takes effort and practice to master any language, it takes practice to master body language. You can practice in front of a mirror or with the help of a supportive friend. You will find that as you become more fluent in your flirting and sexually attractive body language, your self-confidence as a sexually attractive man or woman also increases.
Don’t take yourself too seriously. The goal is not to become an expert in body language, but to be sexually confident with the opposite sex. So have fun with your sexual self. It’s yours to enjoy!
You can also use this knowledge to judge if someone is flirting with you, interested in you, and attracted to you. You can also use this knowledge to tell if someone is flirting with you, interested in you, and attracted to you. Keep in mind that body language is not an exact science.

Opening week of the 2010 NFL season has come and gone and included everything a football fan expects from the National Football League. There were controversial plays, surprises, teams that had problems
getting their offenses going, teams that had their defenses shredded, and teams that started the season on the right track and ready to play.
Let’s take a look at all the games played in the first week of the 2010 NFL season.
New Orleans Saints 14 – Minnesota Vikings 9
The Saints defeated the Vikings in one of the most anticipated games of the first week. Drew Brees marched his team down the field to score easily on his first possession of the game and it looked like it would be a route, but both defenses stiffened from there. In the end, the Saints’ defense was too much for an aging Brett Favre and a Vikings team without wide receiver Sidney Rice.
Miami Dolphins 15 – Buffalo Bills 10
The Dolphins won a low-scoring contest, and they did it by scoring in almost every way possible, including a touchdown, an extra point, a field goal, and a safety. Both offenses were somewhat ineffective as neither of the starting quarterbacks, Chad Henne for the Dolphins and Trent Edwards for the Bills, were able to break the 200-yard passing mark. Neither team had a 100-yard rusher either.
Chicago Bears 19 – Detroit Lions 14
The Bears and Lions have played multiple times over the years and started the 2010 season together. This was a tough battle that ended with a controversial play as the Lions thought they had scored a go-ahead touchdown, but the referee saw it otherwise. The Bears’ Jay Cutler also begins the season with a 300-yard game.
Tennessee Titans 38 – Oakland Raiders 13
The Titans took a 24-6 halftime lead and never looked back. Chris Johnson had his way with Oakland’s defense by racking up 142 rushing yards. Oakland’s Darren McFadden didn’t fare too bad either, as he had a combined 150 yards. The Titans added two touchdowns in the second half, and the Raiders scored one in the fourth quarter.
New England Patriots 38 – Cincinnati Bengals 24
The New England Patriots were in complete control of their week one matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, even leading 24-3 at halftime. The Bengals had some offense in the second half, but by then it was too late. Carson Palmer finished the day with 345 passing yards and the other big star of the day was Chad Ochocinco who had 159 receiving yards.
New York Giants 31 – Carolina Panthers 18
Eli Manning connected with Hakeem Nicks for three touchdowns, yes three touchdowns, including one in the first, second and third quarters. The duo took the fourth quarter bye, with New York receiving a rushing touchdown run from Ahmad Bradshaw. The Panthers got three field goals from the perennial John Kasay and a touchdown pass from the great Steve Smith.
Pittsburgh Steelers 15 – Atlanta Falcons 9
All eyes were on Pittsburgh as they began the season without two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. His replacement, Dennis Dixon, finished with a very respectable 18-of-26 completions for 236 yards. This was a true defensive battle as neither team’s offenses were able to get started. By the end of the fourth quarter things were 9-9 and the game ended with a 50-yard touchdown run in overtime by Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17 – Cleveland Browns 14
Both the Buccaneers and Browns started the game scoring points and the halftime score of 14-10 made it look like each team was having at least some success. The Bucs would shutout the Browns in the second half and score a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to take the lead and win.
Jacksonville Jaguars 24 – Denver Broncos 17
Last season, the Denver Broncos started 6-0, but this season it didn’t take long for the team to suffer their first loss. This was a very close game with the Jaguars’ Maurice Jones-Drew missing a 100-yard game by two yards and Denver’s Kyle Orton missing a 300-yard game by five yards. In the end, the Jaguars’ fourth quarter score put them on top.
Houston Texans 34 – Indianapolis Colts 24

LaDainian Tomlinson averaged more than five yards per carry on her 11 touches for his new team and wide receiver Anquan Boldin had 110 receiving yards for his new team, the Ravens. A little while ago, I shared a short story about my adventures as an unemployed single girl visiting British Columbia. So I wanted to follow up on what a great time I had while watching my budget and appreciating the generosity of my Aunt Marjorie and her boyfriend Larry.
Budget conscious planning
Vancouver, BC is a very exciting and beautiful place to visit. But it is also extremely expensive, especially when you are on a very tight budget. One of the first things I did before traveling was to research the Internet. I wanted to know about safety, fun things to do, tourist things to do, single life, FREE things to do. I found all that and more. But nothing beats getting there and finding my way, which is basically what I did.
Lucky for me, I had no hotel expenses because my Aunt Marjorie gave me her beautiful co-op apartment for me to enjoy, which is just east of downtown Vancouver in a city called Burnaby. The apartment is a five minute walk from the train station, known as the SkyTrain and my main mode of transportation. When I was responsible for my meals, my breakfast consisted of yogurt, fruit, and green smoothies; lunch consisted of a sandwich and a small salad; and dinner was some kind of fish or tuna. I drank a lot of water and tea, and occasionally red wine.
Week One: Get familiar with the environment
During my first week there, I mostly stayed near the apartment and did some local sightseeing with Aunt Marjorie and Larry. We went to dinner, to the mall, and to a few cultural activities and local shopping. I also spent a lot of time riding the SkyTrain and buses with my aunt to learn how to get around. I found a local library, and since my aunt is very active at the rec center, I found a Zumba class to attend. Since the City of Recreation is sponsored by the City of Burnaby, the price for the class was reasonable at $54 for 10 visits. This was not an expense that I had because the classes were given to me as gifts. But even if I hadn’t participated in the class, there were more than enough opportunities to get some exercise by sightseeing and walking.
The nice thing about light rail services is that passengers can sit back and watch. I noticed where things were and what we were going through. Something I found so amusing was seeing a dollar tree. It caught my attention because it was a sign of familiarity, and well, it just created a normality for me in a new place. And more I was able to buy cheap snacks at $1.25 CAD. But there was also Starbucks, which is very familiar (and expensive). And of course, a girl can’t pass up a mall. Whether shopping for small gift items, window shopping, or spending time browsing the web and enjoying the cultural atmosphere, I spent a lot of time at The Metropolis in Metrotown, which was two train stations from the apartment. It is a very nice mall with more than 400 stores. I’m a people watcher, and that’s free, so for the price of a train ticket, the mall was a nice place to hang out and be surrounded by the energy of other people. Needless to say, I made several trips to the mall to see everything.
The Christmas spirit in Vancouver
I made my trip between November and December because I wanted to spend one of my American vacations in Canada, so I chose Thanksgiving. While Canada has its own Thanksgiving holiday (falling on the second Monday in October), there are plenty of restaurants that cater to the American Christmas tradition and serve turkey and dip. The restaurant we visit on American Thanksgiving is called White Point. It’s a Canadian chain restaurant with good food and friendly service. It is very familiar and offers a variety of menus at reasonable prices. The roast turkey dinner is one of their classic meals that includes roast turkey, mashed potatoes, homemade stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, and a seasonal vegetable. You can never go wrong with this traditional food option.
With the Christmas holidays just around the corner, as you can imagine, the lights and decorations began to appear. But there was no snow or really cold weather, maybe a little rain, and temperatures generally stayed in the 60s. That is one of the beauties of Vancouver, its climate, which is one of the warmest in Canada. They miss the cold because the Rocky Mountains block it, but more rain can be anticipated. While I originally wanted to visit during the spring or early summer, I visited during an ideal time and loved it. At this point, the Christmas lights and decorations are starting to sprout, so to get into the Christmas mood, I visited a Christmas bazaar at the Shadbolt Center for the Arts. This is a beautiful multi-use facility in Deer Lake Park. It was the usual bazaar with lots of craft vendors and entertainment every hour, but it was a nice way to round out my first week on my trip.
Week two: start exploring on my own
I felt very safe alone on the train. In fact, Vancouver felt safe and looked really clean. After the first week, I was able to start venturing out on my own. For me, traveling by train was expensive. But compared to renting a car and paying for gas, I can’t complain. The train fares are by zones from $2.50 for one and $5.00 for three. And fares only last an hour and a half, so you have to really plan your trip or be prepared to keep paying fares. The other option was to buy a day pass for $9.00. As with any urban area, be aware of rush hour traffic. The trains get quite crowded. Most people in the greater Vancouver area rely on the train for travel.
A quaint little town near where I was staying was New Westminster. It’s also where my aunt’s boyfriend lives. As we were traveling there one night for dinner, I noticed a little boutique store that I wanted to visit. So the next day, I took the train and walked around looking at shops. I saw a sign for a lunch special, which seemed reasonable, and stopped at Okonomi Sushi, which was voted best sushi in 2013. I ordered the Dynamite Sushi Roll lunch box with teriyaki chicken and tempura salad. So it’s not very exciting because this is what I always order, but it was a new experience to have lunch alone in a foreign place.
Preparing for the second half
During my ride back to the apartment, I noticed a banner on the train for the 102nd Gray Cup being held in downtown Vancouver. Of course, I didn’t know what the Gray Cup was, but I saw that there was going to be a parade, an open-air festival, and street vendors. I was already making plans for my weekend activities for week three to go to the big city by myself. Stay tuned to find out how I couldn’t stay away from downtown Vancouver.
