Cosmetic tubes: everything you need to know

Introduction

There are literally a million products on the market in the modern world, all available for people to choose from and use. With a consumer base of nearly 8 billion people, competition in all categories is always fierce. This is why companies always have to do their best when it comes to the marketing and packaging of their product because, as they say, “the first impression is the last”.

One of the most prominent industries where the need for attractive packaging is a constant is the cosmetics industry. With more and more people becoming more and more conscious of the various aspects of their bodies, thousands of companies are always looking to make some profit from that demand. As such, in the cosmetics industry, it’s not just the outward appearance that matters. The appearance and attractiveness of the packaging in which the product is stored has also become an imperative factor.

The answer

Well, since cosmetic products are mostly liquid, a tube or collapsible tube is the best solution. The most solid products such as powders, makeup, compacts, etc. it can be easily stored in containers.

Designing and manufacturing solid containers is not a big deal. There just has to be a container with a lid colored in the company colors with some design on the surface.

It’s the tubes that require a certain amount of brain-picking in terms of deciding what shape to give the tube, what kind of hole to have, what kind of closure to have, etc.

tube containers

Collapsible tubes are nothing more than a hollow cylindrical and, in some cases, rectangular structure, with a small opening at one end through which the stored material oozes out. In most cases, the material within a tube can be dispensed simply by applying hand pressure, but some tubes must be used with a key at the bottom that allows them to be rolled up and squeezed out of the material.

Tube containers are made of various materials. The most used are plastic, aluminum and cardboard.

The hole in a tube can also take different shapes. There may be only one opening, or there may be one nozzle to spray the material, or there may be multiple small openings instead of one for more regulated dispensing of the product, etc.

types of tubes

As we discussed before, cosmetic tubes come in various shapes and sizes. Some of the more common designs that we are used to seeing include:

  • Rollerballs that house perfumes and deodorants
  • Vial with brush attached to twist cap. Mascara and lip gloss are the most common examples of this type of tube.
  • Cylindrical tubes that can be twisted. Lipsticks and lip glosses are housed in such tubes.
  • A tube or vial with a spray nozzle. Deodorants, perfumes, tonics, etc. They are usually stored in tubes with a nozzle at the end that just has to be pushed down with a little pressure and the liquid inside is sprayed out.
