Our skiing had come to an end and I allocated the last full day in Banff to explore more of the local attractions while my husband headed to Calgary to do some shopping. We set off around 11:30am and Nigel dropped me off at the foot of the Banff gondola. This historic attraction has been around since 1959 and the gondola was recently rebuilt and reopened in 1998 and features a state of the art gondola system designed by a Swiss gondola building company.

In the parking lot of the gondola you can see a big bus with oversized wheels called “Ice Explorer”. This is the type of vehicle used to transport tourists to the famous Columbia Icefields, located between Lake Louise and Jasper National Park.

The gondola takes you from 5,194 ft (1,583 m) at the base station to 7,486 ft (2,281 m) to the upper terminal at Sulfur Mountain in just 8 minutes. On the way I enjoyed the wonderful view of the town of Banff, looking towards the Banff Springs Hotel.

US Airways and JetBlue Airways from the United States have regular flights to Aruba.

The country has a tropical climate, but has very arid and desert vegetation. It was first discovered by the Spanish and then taken over by the Dutch. It remains an autonomous part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. There are a number of charter flights to mainland Europe and Great Britain, so visitors interested in vacationing in this Caribbean paradise should check out those flights for affordable airfare.

The destination attracted visitors in the early 19th century for its gold reserves. Oil was the next attraction. Now, it is becoming a major tourist destination. It is popular with the different cruise lines that operate in the region. The place enjoys proximity to the South American country of Venezuela. There are several cheap flights to Aruba from here as well. island Air offers some cheap airline tickets to this destination and it’s worth checking out.

The California Lighthouse at the north end of the island offers stunning panoramic views of the island and ocean. The Natural Pool in the same part of the island is a pool between rocks. The view is spectacular, as it seems that the pool juts out into the ocean. Some other attractions of the place are the Virgen del Alto View Chapel and the aloe cultivation sites of Aruba. Tea casibari The Rock and Ayo Rock formations are some natural wonders worth climbing for the views they offer. The county also boasts of some natural rock bridge formations, seven in all.

Tea busriban Gold Mill is one of the now ruined gold smelting stations that can be explored to this day. It is a testament to the gold rush that this place experienced in the 19th century. It offers spectacular views of the coast.

The other attraction of the place is undoubtedly its white sand beaches and its pleasant climate throughout the year to enjoy the sun. So if you want to sunbathe and swim in crystal clear waters, look for cheap tickets to Aruba. There are plenty of other water sports such as snorkeling, scuba diving, and parasailing that you can enjoy once you get here.

Another place to visit here is the ostrich farm. It is a great opportunity to see the birds up close. Another unique feature here is the Donkey Sanctuary. It is home to many abandoned and rescued donkeys. During a tour of this place, visitors can feed the animals. There is a souvenir shop that sells gifts, trinkets and trinkets. Proceeds from sales are used to support the sanctuary.

My business partner is my 9 year old grandson, Justin. He was updating him on my learning curves in squeeze pages, affiliates, joint ventures, ebooks, and promotion. He listened to me very attentively during my long explanation on each topic. I was really impressed with how he listened and knew he understood everything. In her great wisdom, she looked at me and said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about, but keep learning.”

As adults, we strive every day to teach our children about life. Sometimes we give long explanations or sometimes we just shout our point of view. We blame children for not listening to us and tell them: “you never listen to me.” However, have you considered that maybe they don’t know what you’re saying, it’s beyond their comprehension? It is true, that based on their ages, we can speak over their heads and expect results that they cannot give us.

Our children expect us to teach them how to grow. However, they also expect us to know how to teach them effectively. If you have more than one child, then it becomes very complicated because each child has a different personality and a different learning curve. It is your job to find out what works best for each child. My mom and dad had four children to teach; and we kids felt their frustration when we did something wrong and they started calling us by the wrong name. However, children listen to adults and if they understand what we are saying, most of the time everything will go smoothly.

Twenty-seven years ago, my wife and I were looking for a quiet beach vacation. We dreamed of a quiet place where we could get away from it all. Our good friend Alan Schleimer operated a small business in Cleveland, Ohio called Condo Search. He recommended a little-known island resort on the Gulf Coast called Palm Island. Palm Island is located in Cape Haze Florida, in Lemon Bay near Englewood Florida.

Once we got to Palm Island, also known as Little Gasparilla Island, we quickly learned that an island vacation is a little different. Palm Island has one restaurant, which is also home to a very small van-sized general store. Our island paradise was car-free, and since Palm Island is one of Florida’s true developed islands without a land bridge, the only way to get there was by ferry.

The ferry to Palm Island left every hour on the hour and returned to the mainland in half an hour. The 20 minute ferry ride dropped us off at the Rum Bay Restaurant dock where the first mate ushered us onto a trolley and took us to our condo unit. The tram also made its trip around the island every hour so getting on and off the island was very easy…it took about 45 minutes to get off.

Being too young and too poor to rent a gulf cart, Kathy and I turned to bicycles for transportation. On the second or third morning, we continue to explore our new island. We had seen many great beaches, but we just weren’t ready to discover the beauty when we came to an estuary where Rum Bay meets Stump Pass. Since the tide was out, we were able to wade through the shallows and discover loads of unusual creatures that we had never seen before.

Among other species, we saw live starfish, numerous mollusks, something we call sea cucumbers, many schools of baitfish, many crabs, and all kinds of shells. Not more than 20 meters away, a great blue heron was stealing shrimp from a fisherman’s bucket. There were all kinds of sea birds, osprey, cormorants and others like we had never seen before.

Seeing one of the fishermen pull a yellowtail trevally out of the waves encouraged me to try fishing myself. Fortunately, Palm Island Resort was able to rent me a fishing rod with some tackle for $10. For the rest of our island vacation, I was able to try fishing almost every day and did manage to catch a few fish, but really didn’t have much luck.

Over a period of several years and several return visits, we “discovered” many delightful aspects of Palm Island and the surrounding area. But it wasn’t until I decided to hire a fishing guide in hopes of catching some fish in Lemon Bay, that my love affair with fishing in the remote waters of Southwest Florida began.

Most of the known fishing guides in the area were already booked on my available days. One of the veterans told me about a new fishing guide who had fished the waters of Charlotte Harbor his entire life, had recently started as a part-time fishing guide and was looking for new clients. So I called Captain Les Hill and arranged for him to take me out in his Tarpon Hunter boat.

Since then I have fished the waters of Lemon Bay, Charlotte Harbor, Gasparilla Sound and Stump Pass with Captain Les over 25 times over many years. A day of fishing in these waters with the right guide seems almost like an existential experience. Fishing aside, each day is filled with detailed explanations of the interplay of various fish, bird and plant life. There are thousands of small mangrove islands, oyster beds, and deep holes where fish congregate.

Except for the occasional fish set aside for dinner, all of our fishing is catch and release. Also, we generally don’t use live bait.

Most of my trips to the Charlotte Harbor – Englewood Florida area include two to three days of fishing with guide Les Hill. With my son and I fishing on the boat, we have landed up to 13 species of fish in the span of three days. I think this also includes the fish we take from the shore.

These include Reds, Snook, Sea Trout, Lady Fish, Flounder, Permit, Shark, Jack, Mangrove Snapper, Saltwater Sheepshead, Spanish Mackerel, Grouper, Blue, and some junk fish.

Still, we haven’t caught our first tarpon yet.

Most of the waters we fish in are between 3 and 6 feet deep. The fish tend to hide in holes that are a few feet deeper. Les can spot a hole that is likely home to Lady Fish and Trout as he runs his Tarpon Hunter at full speed, almost on demand. Because the water is deeper in the hole, you can see the difference in color. Most of the fish hang out right on the edge of these holes.

When we hunt Redfish or Snook, Les gets on the platform and goes along the mangroves. Here you can usually see the Redfish or Snook tailings, long before we make our first release in the area. This increases our chances of catching a fish.

If you’ve ever fished as a kid but drifted away from it, or if you’ve never spent a lot of time saltwater fishing, I highly recommend visiting the Charlotte Harbor area and finding a good fishing guide.

Always start with the safety school of thought first and plan your dive well in advance. So stick to your plan. The monster lobster has a plan to stay safe and so should you. Check your equipment and local dive shops for diving conditions.

Occasionally you can dive into a monster lobster in a good visibility situation, but more often you will catch these monsters in very low visibility. Check the areas with deep crevices and ledges to hide. Usually around 10 to 30 feet, but these 10 to 30 feet have low to none visibility with high tidal waves and currents.

I have found monster lobsters under ledges with sleeping nurse sharks. The biggest one I came across had 0-5 foot vision, in medium swell, in a depth of 25 feet and an offshore swim of about 175 yards. The tools needed are your hands, a bag, a tickling stick, and an extra pair of hands.

When you come across a lobster hiding in a hole, if you can’t get your hand inside, stick the tickle stick under its tail and tickle it. It will start moving forward and then once you catch it, hold on. They tend to get angry and hit you with their tails. Be gentle but firm so as not to break the legs, these are the sweet meats.

Lobsters live in rocky areas and artificial reefs where there is an ample supply of food and an easy path to deeper water for upcoming storms. They choose low visibility areas to avoid predators’ sight and prefer deep holes and deeper ledges.

The spiny lobster varies from the Maine lobster and is quite different. They seem tougher, faster, and smarter. Maybe it is due to the temperature of the water that keeps them jumping. The biggest similarity is that they both taste good.

Diving in the areas where the Spiny Lobster monster lives is not for the novice diver. Typically involves a shore dive with limited or no visibility, light to strong surf, and rocky and natural ledges and outcroppings.

If you don’t mind sharks in Sebastian Inlet, rough surf, and strong currents, the most famous site is Monster Hole. Many divers have bagged the big ones here. Wabasso Beach in Vero Beach will bring fewer sharks and much less current. If you take time here, you can bring home a monster.

The spiny monster lobster lives all along the coast of Florida and the Caribbean. There is a limited season to dive these beauties. From April 1 to August 5, except Sports Season which is the last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday of July of each year. Sports season is special because you can pack more than the usual daily limit of six per person per day, but it can vary from year to year.
