Are you ready to start ticking off that bucket list?

I asked myself that question last year when I made my list. I realized that one of the things I had to do first was to get healthier and fitter so that I could do the things that I wanted to do on that list. I didn’t want to see the world and not have the energy to participate in the activities that I am interested in doing.

On the one hand, I intend to see the pyramids and I imagine that I will walk a lot for that. Not to mention climbing, diving, building, and crafting. Oh, I have big plans.

My strategies for a healthier new year

I made the decision to go vegan last year. It was primarily an ethical reason, but the health benefits were certainly worth the effort of researching as much as I could to help me transition from being a pescatarian. I knew cutting dairy and fish out of my diet was something I’d wanted to do for a long time, but put it off because it involved self-employment and some life-changing decisions I wasn’t ready to make yet. Everything happens in its own time I have learned.

Eliminating foods that she didn’t want to eat was the first step, so she didn’t keep them in the house. But I also replaced with healthier food options that were not only good for me, but that I also enjoyed and would satisfy my cravings. And yes, there is a delicious vegan ice cream among other treats that are suitable for vegans.

I eat a lot of organic whole foods, fruits, vegetables, brown rice, and greens. I didn’t find this difficult at all as I enjoy this type of food. I mainly drink purified water. I’m stretching and staying flexible with yoga, walking on my treadmill when the weather outside didn’t allow it, helped me maintain a good exercise regimen during the winter months. Gardening alone is great exercise in the summer, but I also hula hoop. It’s super fun and looks and feels lovely just doing it.

They give me 8 hours, more if my body wants to sleep. A plant-based diet is a good way to balance your circadian rhythm. I am never depressed and I feel that my self-love and self-awareness have contributed to my overwhelming happiness.

I’ve also lost two pounds a month just by fasting in between. For example, I will stop eating at 7:00 pm and will not break my fast until 11:00 am. break it need.

o It must be stored on your computer and your computer must be connected to a broadband connection at all times. This can drain your computer’s resources during active times.

o There is installation and a learning curve.

o When the industry changes or new methods become popular, you will need to purchase upgrades if they become available.

o New computer technology, industry or law changes may make your software obsolete.

o You are pretty much on your own for technical support after the warranty period ends.

o You must ensure that the software you purchased lives up to its claims and has been around long enough to resolve any bugs.

o Does the software provide additional training and related bonuses?

o Computer efficiency and bandwidth can be significant issues when hundreds or thousands of people are trying to access your system, many at the same time.

SERVICE PROVIDER

o You have an initial setup cost with a service provider just like you do with software.

o Actually, it does not host the Affiliate’s activity on your computer, but on the service providers’ system. This allows for higher bandwidth and 24/7 technical support. No load on your personal system.

o In general, there is not much of a learning curve requirement. Their control panels feature tends to be very user friendly.

o They usually have excellent online training and live technical support when needed for as long as you use their service.

o Updates are automatic and you stay up-to-date with the latest features. There is no additional software to purchase.

o If there is a major computer problem or failure, you have their support to quickly remedy the situation.

o Reputable companies offer you a trial period or money-back guarantee so you can cancel if it doesn’t live up to your expectations. This is probably the number one important issue.

o Installation or configuration is minimal and intuitive, especially for beginners. Some are turnkey.

o Your computer does not have to be connected to the network at all times. For some, this is a benefit.

o Your computer’s memory and resources are kept free from the load of a large amount of activity from hundreds or thousands of affiliates.

We learned that the most desirable thing was a high-quality software or service provider that actually used the same system for their affiliate program. The problem with the quality software package that we liked was its cost. They were very expensive or seemed cheap from the start with low monthly and setup fees, but then charged a percentage of sales. At first, the percentages seemed small, but after looking at the numbers, we realized that they could be very expensive on a yearly basis. Some should have a Mickey Mouse image on their website, which has questionable benefits.

Our personal choice…

Free college tuition! Did you know that a senior attending college could earn a degree for free if she only takes six credit hours per semester and maintains a 2.0 GPA? Some institutes require a registration fee. Read on to see if your state has free tuition.

Alabama

Alabama seniors can attend any two-year institution within the state for free.

Adults over the age of 60 should contact the financial aid office of any community college for admission and eligibility details.

Alaska

The University of Alaska waives tuition for senior residents who are old enough to receive full Social Security benefits. Seniors should wait until the first day of school to register to ensure space is available; they must also complete a tuition waiver form.

Additional costs such as student activity, health center, and lab fees are not covered; the student must pay them directly.

Arizona

All 10 Maricopa Community College campuses allow seniors to take classes for credit at 50% of total tuition.

Students 65 and older must register between the first and second classes of the semester to ensure space is available.

Arkansas

Arkansas waives tuition for anyone age 60 and older who wants to work toward an undergraduate or graduate degree at state institutions.

Student rates may apply and seniors may only register for classes with space available.

California

California State University waives all tuition and dramatically reduces campus fees for residents 60 and older.

Connecticut

Residents 62 and older can attend state universities, including community colleges, for free.

At Central Connecticut State University, for example, university tuition and fees are waived for any resident over the age of 62 applying for full-time or part-time admission to a degree-granting program.

Seniors may also take noncredit courses on a space available basis and tuition will be waived.

Louisiana

Students 55 and older who attend Louisiana State Schools receive free tuition and a 50% discount on books and supplies at the campus student bookstore.

Maryland

Any student in the University of Maryland System who is retired and over the age of 60 can have tuition waived, even for degree-granting programs.

Michigan

Seniors age 60 and older receive free tuition at Northern Michigan University; At Wayne State University in Detroit, seniors age 60 and older receive a 75% discount on tuition, but must pay registration and related fees.

Ohio

Ohioans who are at least 60 years old can attend classes at any state university for free. Seniors do not receive credit and may only register on a space available basis.

South Carolina

Residents age 60 and over can attend classes at state schools with credit or non-credit, depending on space available, free of charge. The school must grant admission through its normal procedures.

Technology, lab, and other fees are the responsibility of the student.

Tennessee

Tennessee residents over the age of 65 can enroll in courses for credit at state schools and community colleges.

Schools may charge a service fee of up to $70 per semester that goes toward maintaining records for those students.

Texas

Texas law allows students age 65 and older the opportunity to take six credit hours of free undergraduate or graduate courses at public universities.

An older adult who attends the University of Texas at Austinfor example, they could earn a free degree if they only take six credit hours per semester and maintain a 2.0 GPA.

Students must present proof of age to the accounts receivable office for the exemption to be applied to their accounts.

Utah

Residents 62 and older can enroll tuition-free at a state institution; a registration fee is required.

Washington

Institutions in Washington are required to partially or fully waive tuition rates for residents age 60 and older who are enrolled for credits on a space available basis. Nominal fees may apply to student auditing courses.

Some schools limit senior citizens to a certain number of classes or credits; for example, Washington State University limits the exemption to six credits each fall and spring semester. Other schools may only offer tuition-free audit options.

West Virginia

West Virginia allows residents age 65 and older to attend undergraduate and graduate courses on a space-available basis; both credit and audit options are available. Schools may still require seniors to pay fees like parking.

While West Virginia University seniors applying for credit must use the regular admissions form, those wishing to be non-degree students pay just $5 to apply.

Wyoming

Upon admission to the University of Wyoming, seniors 65 and older can attend class for free on a space available basis.

Community colleges offer a tuition waiver form that seniors can submit; waivers do not cover student or other fees.

Dermot O’Neill was born in 1905 in County Cork, Ireland. As a teenager he traveled to China and settled in Shanghai. In 1925, at the age of twenty, he joined the Shanghai Municipal Police. This police force made up of 9,000 active and reserve officers was tasked with bringing law and order to the International Settlement.

While in Shanghai, O’Neill immersed himself in the study of Asian martial arts. He was a devoted practitioner of Japanese judo, as well as various forms of “Chinese boxing,” including Tai Chi Chuan, Hsing Yi, and Pa Kua.

O’Neill rose through the ranks of the SMP and was promoted to Detective Sergeant and served as a member and instructor of the SMP’s famous “Shock and Riot Police” task force. He was also considered by many to be the protégé of William Ewart Fairbairn.

In 1938, O’Neill left Shanghai for Tokyo, Japan, as chief of security for the British embassy legation there. During this period, O’Neill received the Godan, fifth degree black belt from the Kodokan, in addition to increasing his martial arts skills by practicing the Japanese style “Kempo”. He left Japan shortly before the bombing of Pearl Harbor and headed for Australia.

O’Neill came to the United States at the urging and recommendation of WE Fairbairn, who was involved with the OSS at the time. O’Neill was scheduled to work for the OSS, but was sent to serve as an instructor with the First Special Service Force, a joint Canadian-American commando unit known as the “Devil’s Brigade”. When the 1st SSF went into action, O’Neill refused to be left behind, stating that since he was training these guys, he would fight very well alongside them. He held the rank of Captain and one of his duties included being assigned to be General Fredericks’ bodyguard. After he finished his time in Europe, O’Neill was assigned the post of Provost Marshal of Monte Carlo.

When the war with Japan ended, O’Neill was sent to Okinawa as a liaison officer. After the war, O’Neill served as a consultant on police and security for various federal agencies, including the State Department and the Central Intelligence Agency. In the mid-1960s, O’Neill settled in the Washington, DC area and began working with the International Police Academy there. This organization was funded by the Agency for International Development and was a front for CIA-led paramilitary operations and training. Church Committee hearings on intelligence activities caused the closure of this academy in the early 1970s.

O’Neill was considered a very tough man in his day and had a reputation for not backing down from anyone. His skill in judo was highly praised even at the Kodokan. O’Neill had studied with Uchijima, the renowned Kodokan judo instructor. O’Neill was especially known for his ability to catch. The close combat methods he devised and taught were highly effective and proved so in actual battles on numerous occasions. O’Neill greatly influenced military hand-to-hand combat for both the US Army and Marine Corps.

Dermot O’Neill had been married briefly and had a daughter. He died on August 11, 1985.

Origins of the O’Neill Method

The “O’Neill” method is a constant source of debate and speculation.

Due to the fact that most people have only been exposed to limited information about this method, many “false” opinions have been expressed about its value and/or effectiveness.

Army 21-150 manuals offer little in the way of a “complete” method, and the “proposed” USMC manual adds some information, but certainly doesn’t come close to the complete “picture.”

In addition to the non-fictional works on the First Special Service Force that add pieces to the puzzle, other “technical” sources exist.

Aside from DM O’Neill’s fairly well-documented Judo background and his service with the SMP and as a “protégé” of the WEF, little else is really known about the elements that comprise his method.

Quotes like this: “……….the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) improved version of kick and punch judo. This method of unarmed close combat was developed and taught by a former police inspector from Shanghai, a British embassy security expert and contract OSS employee named Dermot Michael “Pat” O’Neill. Offer some more insights into the man and the method.

The system that O’Neill “developed” was born during his time in Shanghai. Charlie Nelson relates that his introduction to the O’Neill method was through a sergeant. Kelly, who learned this method from O’Neill during Kelly’s tour of duty in China. Since we know that O’Neill left for Japan in 1938, the “training” between Kelly and O’Neill must have occurred before that. So we can assume that the O’Neill method came to fruition sometime in the mid-1930s.

Many reference sources containing information on the O’Neill method recalled by the Forcemen of the 1st SSF refer to phrases similar to the one cited above. Terms like “jab and kick”, “gouge and kick”, “poke and kick” are constantly used to describe this method. We now KNOW what the elements of the “Fairbairn” system are (although even here too there are many misconceptions) and when it would be difficult to describe the WEF approach as “kick and shove”.

Although O’Neill’s method may have included elements of the Fairbairn system (although there is documentation to the contrary), it is clear that O’Neill’s method is materially different. The difference in “needs” when it comes to close combat between front-line rapid assault “shock” troops like the “Devil’s Brigade” and the nature of clandestine special operations conducted by the OSS and the SOE largely explains the dissimilarity in the choice of method.

Chinese foot wrestling or Chinese boxing is mentioned in various manuals attributed to O’Neill. CHI-CHI SHU another reference to Chinese fighters is also mentioned in the AID/IPA manual. Existing material from the WWII era mentions this specifically. Charlie Nelson always said that this method was based on Chinese guerrilla warfare.

So where does the O’Neill method originate from? What can be the original source of this system?

To fully understand the possible connections to Chinese boxing, we must FULLY understand the entire original curriculum of this method.

We will begin to discuss that aspect in Part II. Hopefully, we will also dispel “misinformed” opinions about the validity and combat effectiveness of O’Neill’s “method.”

If you were to write a youth book on how to play baseball, or a romance novel for adults, your “audience” would be easy to identify. In the first example, you would be writing for an age group between 7 and 11 years old; all readers would be interested in baseball; and would have, say, a beginner to intermediate level of ability and sophistication in the sport. In the second example, you could Google the demographics of who buys romance novels and get a pretty good idea of ​​who might buy your book. Audience identification is critical every time you write, and that’s the case when you’re also writing answers to law school essay exam questions.

When you write the answer to a law school essay exam question, your audience is fictional. Think of your audience (reader) as an informed attorney or colleague (law student) who is fairly familiar with the nature and purpose of law in general; who has read the fact pattern; and that he has a passing familiarity with the law of the subject (torts or contracts, for example), but needs to be reminded of the precise rules of the law. Then proceed as if you were explaining the situation to that person.

For example, that person would not need to read that hunting knives often have sharp edges, that if a person is the manager of a grocery store, it can be assumed that she is the person who should be in charge of the store, or that there is a difference between tortuous assault and criminal assault in that the latter is punishable by imprisonment.

Also, because the fictional reader has read the fact pattern, there is no need to repeat sections or sentences of the question. In other words, if the question includes: “When Mr. Slocum entered the airport he noticed the smell of something burning, and this immediately worried him”… then there is no need to include in your essay, “When Mr. Slocum He entered the airport and noticed the aroma of something burning, and this immediately worried him.” (Rather, it could refer to Slocum’s location, refer to the scent, or refer to Slocum’s concern, if they are key facts in his argument; there is no need to repeat what the reader just read in the question.)

Despite every step of your legal analysis should be in the essay, it’s important not to waste your limited time explaining what your audience is expected to know.

Now let’s take a look at the “real” audience: your teacher. Always write with your teacher in mind. In general, the characteristics of an “A” response include: identification of all issues, significant attention to “gray areas”, incorporation of high-level argumentation techniques (example: using the “slippery slope” argument) , integration of legal principles and facts of the hypothetical with common sense notions, and political support for an adopted position.

However, teachers differ on what they consider “A” grade material. Therefore, it is very important to obtain not only the previous exam questions that your teacher has submitted, but also, if available, their quality sample answers. You should study these answers carefully, because there you will find what qualities your teacher rewards with high marks.

You should also discuss with your professors what they look for in test answers during office visits. You’ll also get a lot of this information during class, so be sure to put that in your notes! Do this with each of your teachers so you know what to expect on a real exam. Whatever you discover, that is what you must practice! Then incorporate your teachers’ suggestions into your practice test answers.

The audience matters all you write…and the audience you write for when you write answers to law school essay exam questions is likely to be a determining factor in the grade you receive.
