I have a brother named Ricky who is an alcoholic and was spending time at the University of New Mexico Mental Health Center receiving care etc. One day, my mother and I went to visit Ricky, and while we were sitting in the lobby waiting to see him… we heard a lot of commotion outside. There were about six people in the group going into the Mental Health Center, including three police officers, who were pushing and shoving and trying to bring in an elderly couple who were in their 70s!

Screaming and screaming and crying… the old couple was not easy for the police to handle, and they took the old couple somewhere in the back of the building! My mother and I looked at each other in amazement! Why were the police bringing this elderly couple to the Mental Health Center? When the nurse came to take us to see Ricky, I asked her what had happened to the old couple.

The nurse told me that the old couple’s home burned to the ground…and if that wasn’t enough…their two grandchildren perished in the fire! Can there be a bigger disaster than this? We can all relate to this horror, because we all live in a house, apartment, or trailer, and it could happen to any of us, and within minutes, our lives would change for the worse! One can only imagine how the elderly couple sank into depression…and they could have harmed themselves or others, and that’s why the police brought them in to get medicine!

Over the last decade or so, I’ve been fired from six jobs, for legitimate reasons like company closures; defense cuts; size reduction etc. I have never lost a job because I was fired or because of an attitude or poor attendance. etc But, during this terrible time in my life, I probably suffered from depression and didn’t know it! Upon arrival it was clear that my dining partner and I had the place to ourselves. There was another table, this one with five guests, on the other side of the room. My host kindly selected a table away from the door and any errant gusts of icy wind that might have eluded the porter. Our server was Shelby Griffing, a five year veteran of premium ocean and an expert guide to dine there.

When Shelby suggested that the chef was excited about a plate of shoulder lamb chops (the popular American name for French-style bone-in rack of lamb chops), my ears perked up. On a day like this, do you really want to order from the menu? After all, the chef is alone in the kitchen and is dying to show off his favorite dish. Why disappoint him or yourself? Under such conditions, go with the will of the restaurant. One must listen carefully and unless you are allergic to the special, it is wise to select it. The chef, in these circumstances, is going to go the extra mile to shine. In fact, many years of dining in high-end restaurants have taught me that the best meals are eaten on those occasions when one can “bond,” so to speak, with the kitchen staff. For starters, the ingredients were absolutely the best, before Eugenio Reyes worked his magic on it in the kitchen. These were the best and most tender wild woolly lamb chops Oregon has ever produced (as good, if not better, than Colorado, which is the usual place for the best American lamb). It is often true, both in the kitchen and in other activities of life, that the best ingredients are more than half the battle. But the way Chef Reyes prepared these chops was extraordinary and, in my experience, unique.

Instead of the traditional lamb recipe, or a variation of it, in which they are coated with rosemary and salt, these were served in a clear raisin-based reduction, very delicate and slightly sweet. Absolutely out of this world! The lamb chops were served with tiny potatoes the size of marbles. I have never had lamb with a hint of sugar or raisins before, except maybe once or twice in Morocco. It was a pleasure, and I will remember it.

I then asked Chef Reyes why these lollipop chops are not on the regular menu, and he replied quite reasonably that it is simply not possible to get the desired quality of chops on a daily basis (although they are generally available) and that, too, respecting inclinations For his Texas customers, lamb isn’t something Dallas people want to order every day, no matter how good it is. Golden tree frogs make great pets because they prefer to live in a quiet habitat. 3. Do not use gravel, small bark, or abrasive mats because they can cut the skin and are dangerous if swallowed; instead, use damp paper towels, foam rubber, or coconut husk fibers.

4. Plants are needed, but make sure that the selected ones are not poisonous to them. Artificial plants can be bent around their perches to give them decent hiding places, and large broad-leaved plants should also be added to provide additional hiding places.

5. The humidity should be kept above 60% and the temperature should be kept between 75 and 85 degrees.

Diet

The golden tree frog usually prefers a diet of live crickets and should generally be fed three to six crickets about three times per week. Once a week, other foods should be added to improve their diet, including waxworms, mealworms, silkworms, moths, flies, or other insects. Do not overfeed them because they will get fat, making you very prone to disease and infection. To keep frogs healthy, every third feeding of adults should have the food topped with high-quality reptile vitamin and mineral supplements, while juveniles should have this with every feeding.

Although many brightly colored varieties of frogs have toxins on their skin, these golden tree frogs are non-toxic.
