Cuban-born Tony Pérez was inducted in 2000. He was best known for his years with Cincinnati’s Big Red Machine. Pérez batted .279 with 379 home runs and 1,652 RBIs.

Rod Carew is from Panama and was drafted in 1991. Rod won seven batting titles, finished with a career .328 average and 3,053 hits. In 1972 Carew did something no player had done before and hasn’t done since. He won the batting title without hitting a single home run. He was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1967 and the Most Valuable Player in 1977.

Born in Puerto Rico, Orlando Cepeda entered the Hall of Fame in 1999. Cepeda was the National League Rookie of the Year in 1958 and won the Most Valuable Player Award in 1967. He has a career batting average of .297. , 379 home runs and 1,365 runs hit.

Luis Aparicio was born in Venezuela and was elected to the Hall in 1984. Luis was the 1956 American League Rookie of the Year and won nine Gold Gloves. He finished with 2,677 hits and led the American League in stolen bases nine straight seasons.

There are three other Latino players in the Hall of Fame. Martín DiHigo, Cristóbal Torriente and José Méndez, all from Cuba, were Negro league stars but never played in the Major Leagues.

With all the great Latin players in the game today, it won’t be long before there are more than seven established players in Cooperstown.

While it could hardly be considered SUPER, another Super Bowl is on the books, as the Steelers beat the Seahawks on Sunday, 21-10. For the 26th time in 40 Super Bowls of all time, the game was decided by 10 points or more and the Steelers ‘covering’ as a four-point favorite ended a four-game winning streak by losers! of the Super Bowl!

What an ending we could have had if Seattle, trailing by 11 points as the game ended, had been able to score a TD in the final seconds of the game. The Seahawks, losing 21-16, would almost certainly have gone for two points in the conversion (regardless of how little time was left), meaning ALL bets would have been settled on that ONE play, perhaps even with no time left in the game. Sunday’s college basketball featured two BIG comebacks. No. 17 Georgetown trailed No. 9 Pitt by 15 points on goal in the first half and won again, 61-58. Kansas trailed No. 19 Oklahoma 50-34 in the second half at Lawrence but rallied to beat the Sooners, 59-58. No. 10 George Washington, one of SEVEN schools still unbeaten in conference play, had little trouble moving to 18-1 (8-0 in the A-10s), as they beat Richmond 80-55.

It’s a light card in college hoops tonight (12 games), but it’s Big Monday. ESPN2 gets all three games, starting with Louisville in Cincinnati at 7:00 ET. Both teams are struggling in the Big East this year, with the Cardinals going 3-6 in the league after opening 12-1 on their non-conference schedule and the Bearcats going 4-5. Cincy lost forward Kirkland in the U Conn game (Jan. 9) and including that game, is 2-6 SU and 1-7 ATS without him. The Cardinals beat Cincy in Louisville on Jan. 25 (67-50), however, the Bearcats are 2 1/2-point favorites with a total of 137 1/2.

No. 7 Texas is in Lubbock at 9:00 ET to take on Bob Knight and the Red Raiders. Knight has averaged 22.5 wins per season in his first four years at Texas Tech, but this year’s team is just 12-10, though the Red Raiders are 11-1 at home. However, Texas is 19-3 on the year (the best start since the 1977-78 team) and is 62-5 against other Texas schools under Rick Barnes, including 13-2 against to the Red Raiders. Texas is favored by 10 1/2 points with a total of 134 1/2.

No. 5 Gonzaga hosts St Mary’s in the Night Cup at 12:00 PM ET. The Bulldogs own the current longest home win streak in the country at 34 straight and have won 19 straight games (including tournaments) over WCC opponents (38-2 against conference foes the last three years!). While St Mary’s are just 3-5 in the league this year, all five of their defeats have been by EIGHT points or fewer. Gonzaga, who won at St Mary’s on January 7 68-60, is favored by 12 1/2 points on a total of 150.

Sunday’s NBA saw the Rockets move to 12-6 with Ming and McGrady in the lineup, beating the struggling Knicks, 93-89. However, when one or both are out, the Rockets are just 6-23, leaving the team eight games out of last playoff spot in the West. The Clippers won 115-113 in overtime in Toronto and have moved 11 games over .500 (28-17) for the first time since the franchise moved to Los Angeles!

In Sacramento, the Kings shot 11-for-19 in the fourth quarter of their game with the Jazz, outscoring them 31-20 in the period in a 96-78 victory. That comes just two days after the Kings went 0-for-20 on FG attempts during Friday night’s 89-79 loss at Salt Lake City.

There are nine games in Monday’s NBA, though none are on television. The Nets will put their 10-game home winning streak (7-3 ATS) on the line against the New Orleans Hornets at 7:35 ET. The Displaced Hornets are quite the story this year, going 15-8 in “home” games in Oklahoma City and Baton Rogue, while posting an overall record of 24-22.

The Hornets went 18-64 last season, tying the second-worst record in the league. The Nets are favored by 6 1/2 points with a total of 182 1/2. The Nuggets, losers of seven straight ATS games, visit the Warriors, winners of five straight ATS. Something has to give at 10:35 ET in Oakland, where Golden State is favored by 3 1/2 points (total is 199 1/2).

George Washington was the first president of the United States. He served two terms, his last term ending in 1797. But near the end of his second term in 1796, he published a farewell letter to the nation, which became essential for future generations. Here are some reasons why this address was so important.

If the Titans weren’t coming off a bye, they might have been susceptible to disappointment, but the bye week only strengthens their chances against a still weak Falcons squad. The Falcons are also in a bed spot as they rate in a 53-104-4 disappointment on the road here. The Titans’ defense is playing very well and they should crack down on the resurgent Joey Harrington, who did most of his damage over the past two weeks against poor secondaries. THE PICK: Tennessee Titans (-8)

3. WASHINGTON REDSINS (-3.5) VS. Detroit Lions: The Lions head to Washington to take on a Redskins team that continues to struggle to score points but has been playing well defensively outside of a second-half meltdown against the Giants. Meanwhile, the Lions are coming off a tough win at home against the Bears and will likely be susceptible to disappointment here against a non-division opponent. The Redskins have had the advantage of the bye week to get their offense going and this team has weapons in RB Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts to go along with wide receivers Santana Moss and Antwan Randle-El. The Lions are terrible defensively and that will further help the ‘Skins in their effort to get going offensively. This is still a tough question to decide as these teams are close in ability but go with the home team that has had the extra week to prepare. THE PICK: Washington Redskins (-3.5)

4. Arizona Cardinals (-3.5) VS. ST. LOUIS RAMS********WE HAVE A STRONG OPINION ON THIS GAME.

5. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (-16.5) VS. Cleveland Browns: Another big advantage for the unstoppable Patriots here and the only thing that could keep them from covering is the fact that they are in a disappointing situation after a dominant MNF win over the Bengals. The Patriots are clearly the elite in the NFL right now and the talent gap between these two teams is huge. The Patriots have already covered such a high spread this year when they beat the Bills in Week 2, so they haven’t shown anyone any mercy so far. The Browns also apply to a negative 53-104-4 ATS situation on the road and at this point you shouldn’t bet against the Patriots under any circumstances. THE PICK: New England Patriots (-16.5)

The Panthers find themselves in a similar situation as they are coming off a terrible loss at home to the Bucs and will once again be playing without quarterback Jake Delhomme. It would be hard to see the Saints lose back-to-back games at home, but the extra half point is the problem with this one. The Panthers seem to play better on the road and are a well-coached group that should respond with their season on the brink. The Panthers are in a good spot here as well, qualifying in a 40-9-3 ATS turnaround scenario. The Saints should win the match but it will be by only 3 so take the points. THE PICK: Carolina Panthers (+3.5)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Colts remain home after an impressive slaughter by the Denver Broncos on Sunday, while the Bucs maintained their status as the biggest upset of 2007 by beating the Carolina Panthers on the road. Back-to-back road games are always tough, but quarterback Jeff Garcia has this team believing they can win against any opponent. The Bucs’ defense has also played very well and they look like the robust units that dominated the league between 1998 and 2003. The Colts are firing on all cylinders offensively as usual, but will come into this one banged up with RB Joseph Addai and the WR Marvin Harrison dealing with injuries. Lamar Odom is well known among basketball fans for his versatile style of play. For the following season, Odom and Butler were traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. After his stellar season with the Heat just a year earlier, Odom would continue to be a solid player for the Lakers, but they would end up missing the playoffs during his first season with them. Texas Hold’Em Poker is a variation of poker in which each player is dealt two cards and then uses a combination of those two cards and the five community cards to make a hand. The player with the best hand wins.

Below is a ranking of the types of poker hands from worst to best.

A PAIR – occurs when a player has two figures of the same value in his hand, for example, two kings, two tens, two aces, etc.

TWO PAIRS – occurs when a player has a pair of the same cards twice, for example, two kings and two aces, two thirds and two tens, etc.

THREE OF A KIND – as the name says, it happens when a player has three cards of the same value, for example, three aces.

LADDER – five cards (of different suits) that are stacked one after another, for example 7,8,9,10,J.

FLUSH – five cards of the same suit, for example A,J,10,7,2.

FULL HOUSE: A set of EVEN and THREE OF A KIND, meaning for example K, K, A, A, A.

FOUR OF A KIND: As the name suggests, it happens when a player has four cards of the same value, for example, four kings or four aces, etc.

STRAIGHT FLUSH – the strongest flush in the game. They are five cards of the same suit that are grouped one after another, for example A,K,D,J,10 of spades.

At the beginning of the game, two cards are dealt to each player. This is followed by the first round of betting between the players. All bets go into a pot. The dealer then reveals three community cards. This is followed by a second round of betting. A fourth community card is then revealed, followed by another round of betting. Finally, the fifth community card is revealed and there is one last round of betting. After the final round of betting, the player with the best five-card suit wins the pot.

During each of the four betting phases of the game, players can perform a number of actions:

Bet: The first player to bet money and put that money into the pot has placed a bet. In Texas Hold’Em there is no limit to the amount of money players can bet. A bet is only called a bet when the player is the first player to bet. Otherwise, it is called a call or a raise.

Call: When a player is NOT the first player to bet, and they match the bet of previous players, their bet is called a call. If a player does not call, he must raise or fold.

Raise: When a player is NOT the first player to bet and raises the bet of previous players, their bet is called a raise. When a player raises, they increase the amount of money in play by increasing the bet. In Texas Hold’Em, there is no limit to how much a player can raise the bet.

Check: Check means not to put any money into the pot. If the players before him have checked (they don’t put any more money into the pot), then the player can also check. But if the players before him have bet, called or raised, then the player cannot check. You must call, raise or fold.

Fold – The player gives up on this round of betting, losing all the money they have put into the pot this round.

The basic rule is that all players must have the same amount of money in the pot. If a player does not want to put at least the same amount of money into the pot, that player must fold.
