How To Paint Kitchen Cabinets – Easy Guide For Weekend Warriors And DIY Hobbyists
We always suggest hiring a professional to do the work for you for multiple reasons including experience and the assurance of quality work! But for those who want to know how to paint kitchen cabinets without a professional sprayer, here’s how you can get professional-looking results for under $200.
How to Achieve Professional Results When Painting Your Kitchen Cabinets
I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about one of our Facebook posts where I painted the walls and cabinets in our kitchen. Most people are curious and want to know how to paint kitchen cabinets and how much it costs to make them look like new.
Our house is very old and so are our closets. It didn’t bother us at first, but eventually we got tired of seeing that ugly veneer look, so we decided it was time for a makeover.
It’s not very difficult to paint over veneer, it just needs the right prep work. If you hire a professional, I’d suggest trying to do as much as you can yourself, like removing the doors and hardware and maybe sanding them down lightly with a 220-grit sanding block. A light scratch will suffice (imagine you’re cleaning a window). That will save you a few bucks. But if you decide to do it on your own, here are some tips on how to paint kitchen cabinets and get amazing and long-lasting results.
Preparation when painting kitchen cabinets
After removing the doors (or just masking off the hinges), lightly sand or roughen the surfaces to be painted with a 220-grit sanding block. Use a type of degreaser such as Windex or Zep Citrus Degreaser.
You then have 2 options: you can either use 220 grit sandpaper and lightly roughen the surfaces or use Krud Kutter-Gloss Off, which you can wipe clean and let sit for 10 minutes. Your surfaces will be tarnished without sanding.
Your next step is to prime the surfaces with the appropriate primer. I used one coat of “INSL-X Stix” which is an acrylic urethane. You can find it online or at your local Benjamin Moore dealer. Check with your local hardware store.
Using a good quality paint will help you get the best possible finish. I suggest using Benjamin Moore Advance Alkyd. It is very easy to work with and dries to a hard, durable finish.
Using a 2-inch nylon brush, start cutting around the hardware (if you didn’t remove the doors) and anywhere your Whizz™ Roller won’t reach. Next, use your Whizz™ roller to apply your ALKYD glaze. Try to paint in the same direction as your grain (if your cabinet has a faux wood pattern). Let it dry overnight and repeat. You can hang the doors now, but keep in mind that although the polish will dry overnight, it still takes 30 days to fully cure, so be careful and try to avoid rubbing before that 30 days.

Over time, your headlight lenses tend to discolor or “whiten”. This inevitably reduces the amount of light that passes through the lens and lights your way. Poor lighting components should never be ignored. If headlights are not replaced or repaired, you and your occupants are at high risk of an accident while driving in poor visibility.
Your vehicle’s headlights are designed to give you the ability to travel at high speeds at night or in poor visibility conditions. Some vehicles’ headlights turn on automatically when sensors are activated at nightfall. Properly working headlights save you from potential problems down the road. The typical headlight is designed to provide two types of lights: a low beam and a high beam. The low beam is designed to provide ample illumination of the road ahead and minimize glare from the headlights to oncoming vehicles. High beam provides maximum illumination with limited glare control. Without your headlights working properly, your ability to navigate the road in poor visibility conditions is significantly affected. Simply put, your vehicle’s headlights make it safe to drive at night or in poor visibility conditions.
It is important that the headlight assembly on your vehicle is always in optimal condition. With perfectly functional headlights on your vehicle, you are guaranteed to enjoy superior visibility on the road. Replacing damaged headlights yourself is usually easy. If you’re not mechanically inclined, there are numerous local auto repair shops capable of replacing your new headlight assembly.
Headlights are an important facet of the overall car design theme. As such, they are highly sought after in the event of an accident. The problem is, like most OEM parts, the headlight assembly is often a dealer exclusive item and is cost prohibitive. An aftermarket headlight assembly offers a cost effective alternative. Prime Choice Auto Parts offers a full line of headlight assemblies for all years, makes and models of cars and trucks. We carry new headlight assemblies for domestic and import vehicles. All headlight assemblies are direct fit replacements for the original factory headlight assemblies.
If your headlights are worn or damaged, it’s important to replace them right away.
tail light assembly
A rear light or taillight is the part of a vehicle’s lighting system that is attached at the front and rear of the vehicle. They usually come in pairs (left/driver side and right/passenger side). The rear light provides different functions.
Signal lights, or turn signals, are usually part of the tail light assembly. Usually colored yellow due to regulatory standards, this part of the taillight assembly indicates that a vehicle is turning left or right. The same lights are also used in times of emergency by activating your danger or emergency signal. Reversing lights are also part of the taillight assembly and are used both to indicate that a vehicle is backing up and to provide a bright light to guide you as you back up. The reversing lights come on automatically when the vehicle is put into reverse gear. These lights often have the highest illumination in the taillight assembly, but are not as bright as the headlights.
The parking lamps in the taillamp assembly are a signal to drivers behind of the presence of another vehicle when it is dark, foggy, or rainy. They are also used as a brake light. The parking or brake light is usually located in the highest position of the tail light assembly and comes on when the driver applies the brakes.
The tail light assembly may be the most overlooked part on most vehicles. Your taillight assembly is an essential safety feature that must be properly maintained. A broken taillight, whether the bulb is simply burned out or the tail assembly is damaged or cracked, is a potential driving hazard. A broken taillight can eliminate the driver’s ability to activate a turn signal; worse yet, it may not alert drivers behind you that you’re stopping.
Prime Choice Auto Parts offers high quality, direct fit replacement taillight assemblies for all makes and models, both domestic and import. All taillight assemblies are direct fit replacements for the factory headlight assemblies.
Replacing a rear light
Replacing a set of taillights is a simple process that involves removing your current taillight and installing a new one in the same location. It can usually be done with a screwdriver and other basic tools. To get started, purchase a replacement taillight cover from an online auto parts store.

To put it mildly, online businesses are making millionaires in droves and this is the best time in all of human history to jump online and create wealth for yourself and your loved ones faster than you ever thought possible. This is not utopian.
Companies used to take at least a hundred years to go from humble beginnings to global brands. Global brands like P&G (1837), Nestlé (1866), Heineken (1864) easily come to mind.
On the other hand, Microsoft (1975), Apple (1976), Amazon (1994), and Google (1998) took less than 10 years to become household names.
Making it big isn’t limited to tech giants. People are making a killing online in fields as varied and mundane as online training, fitness, and writing (also called blogging).
Take Brendon Burchard as an example. He is an online trainer who started around 2009. Today he has more than 3 million students in more than 100 countries. Hiss’s impact is so massive that Oprah refers to him as “One of the most successful online trainers in history.” The net worth of him is estimated at N22million.
Another example is Ramit Sethi. He launched his first blog in 2004 and in 2018 he was featured in Fortune and Forbes simultaneously. In the same year, Forbes featured Ramit alongside Warren Buffet and estimated his net worth at $25 million.
Making it big is not limited to men. Chalene Johnson, the global fitness icon, has an estimated net worth of $10 million while Marie Forleo has an estimated net worth of $14 million.
While Chalene Johnson has been a household name as a fitness trainer for over 30 years, Marie Forleo rose to fame in the last 10 years with the help of Marie TV, online training, coaching, and books.
The fastest, easiest and cheapest way to succeed is to harness the power of the Internet. As internet gurus say, to be successful online, do what works. In short, don’t try to reinvent the wheel.
Internet is a paradigm shift. While it has created enormous wealth for those who dominate its ecosystem, it has also accelerated the gap between those who know how it works and those who don’t.
Generally, every time there is a paradigm shift, the knowledge base is reset to zero and everyone has to learn all over again. To learn quickly and easily, it is necessary to follow a proven path.
In order to be successful and prosper, you must follow what I call the Internet Business Success Formula for Beginners. As you know, there is order in the universe. If there was no order, there would be chaos. My Internet Business Success Formula for Beginners is a short but powerful framework that shows you how to be successful online. If you follow it, you will succeed. If you don’t, you will fail.
The formula consists of 7 steps. Are here:
Learn day and night
Despite its apparent plug and play simplicity, the Internet is a complex ecosystem. To be successful, you must learn day and night because change is fast and furious, with core algorithms changing overnight. Learning allows you to have depth and breadth and keeps you always green.
Here are the highlights of the things you should learn. To learn:
• How the Internet is evolving
• How to be visible
• How to connect with people
• How to build a list
• How to write scripts
• How to create products
• How to make your products recognizable
• How to make money online
Be visible outside and online
Being visible requires that you increase your online and offline footprints so that you are known and start building credibility and seriousness. Here are the things you need to do to increase your visibility:
• Develop perennial intellectual properties (books, courses, learning guides, etc.)
• Have a base of operations (website or blog)
• Have embassies (social media platforms)
• Have listening posts (mailing lists, social media platforms, podcasts)
• Have satellite towns/cities (guest post, befriend social media influencers).
• Organize events and develop your own platforms, such as the YouTube channel.
• Court the media
build relationships
To attract strangers, visitors, friends, and former enemies into loyal customers and true fans, you need to build relationships. While it makes sense to have a broad base of relationships, it’s more important to build a base of true fans. Here are the things you need to do to build relationships:
• Give valuable things, like books and e-books, for free
• Communicate with your other online influencers
• Extend a helping hand to strangers you meet by offering advice.
• Help with specialized information whenever you can, for example in forums
• Make recommendations in areas where you have authority; do not be shy
• Bring people together as a connector
• Ask for help wherever you are challenged, again don’t be shy.
Create a mailing list
Make building your mailing list a priority so you have someone to market and sell to tomorrow. There is a raging debate online about what comes first: the product mailing list. As a beginner, don’t get distracted by these chicken-and-egg arguments. List and product are the two sides of the same coin: your online business. Just keep in mind that with a list you can market what you don’t have through affiliate marketing, but a product with a list gets you nowhere. Also keep in mind that as a beginner you will not be able to do affiliate marketing. So build your list and search for your product in an unbiased way. Here’s how to approach building your list:
• Start a mailing list from day one (at least now you know).
• Start with low hanging fruits, medium and finally high hanging fruits
• Create a segmented list that allows you to personalize your messages
• Employ an affordable mail or contact management system
• Personally invite people to join your list and be persistent.
• Give away valuable incentives, such as books, video lessons, etc.
• Continue like this day and night
Have something to offer (Create products)
Create products to sell so you can add more value to your followers. People will follow you because you have something to offer them. When you do, you’ll make money, but making money shouldn’t be your main consideration. When you do it right, the money will come. These are the things you should do:
• Equip yourself with knowledge and wisdom
• Write and refine your intellectual properties
• Develop compelling races, events and platforms
• Master the technologies required for production
• Master the technologies required for delivery
• Be consistent and focus on things that will last, evergreens
• Specialize so people know what you stand for
Learn to market and sell online
Marketing and sales are the axes that generate money. The most successful online business owners excel at marketing and sales. Invest a large percentage of what you generate in marketing to generate more sales and continue to grow your business. Here are the things you need to do to boost marketing and sales:
• Learn how to use marketing to grow your business
• Understand the psychology of buying and buyer behavior.
• Learn to build your business portfolio
• Learn how to build and optimize your sales funnel
• Learn how to write sales scripts that convert visitors into customers
• Learn how to use social media for marketing
• Learn how to set up your landing pages
• Continue to sell enthusiastically because selling is human, but don’t be a salesperson.
Master strategies to win in the long run
Succeeding in a sustainable way online is a marathon. Commit to it for the long term. Develop insights into how online effort is monetized and where money is being made along the value chain. Know that Rome, as they say, was not built in a day. If you are looking for online business like a sprint or a hundred meter race, you will give up too soon and fail. Here are the things you need to do right now:
• Master and refine your winning game plan
• Master the four phases of online business (learning, audience, product, sales)
• Develop a long-term vision
• Keep things always green
• Branch out into adjacent winning areas as you become more confident
• Develop offline assets to mitigate your online risks.
• Iterate and build on the principles of excellence
There you have it, the seven planks that make up my formula for Internet business success. You may be wondering, where is the technology, after all we are talking about the internet. The truth is that technology permeates all seven steps, but technology remains what it is, an enabler. Technology allows you to scale and reach thousands online, but relationships win out in the end. So we talk about high tech, high touch.
Ultimately, you need to master technologies that allow you to learn day and night, be visible offline and online, build relationships, build a mailing list, create products, learn how to market and sell online, and master strategies to win in the long run.
Knowing the technicalities or technology is important because you are dealing with machines and technology will help you scale and automate, but it is not a primary condition for a beginner’s success.
Online success is anchored in the two magic numbers: a customer base of 10,000 and a monthly recurring income of $10,000. You can easily achieve both if you follow the 7-step formula for internet business success that I have given you in this article. Once you hit these numbers, you’re ready to leverage the technology to scale. That will be the subject of another article.

Every story has at least three or four sides, with varying accounts and versions.
As Somaly Mam tries to rebuild her foundations in Cambodia, it’s time to listen to another voice, that of her ex-husband, Pierre Legros. She was a co-founder of Acting for Women in Distressing Situations (AFESIP) in 1996 and a former director of AFESIP International.
Mam and Legros were together for 15 years, 13 of them legally married. According to Legros, “I am the only person on earth who really knows most of the story. I want to tell the truth and stop the lies. I also want to prevent him from using Nieng, my adopted daughter, as part of his campaign.” to make a comeback.”
The actual situation
Pierre Legros leans back in his chair at a restaurant in Phnom Penh. “First of all, I am not against Somaly. We had good years together, we have two biological children and an adopted daughter. Unfortunately, I cannot see my 12-year-old son, Nicolai. We have parted ways.” 2004, when I was fired from AFESIP, but I didn’t get a divorce until 2006. Then, in 2007, he created The Somaly Mam Foundation in the United States.”
He shrugs, “So what if she told some lies. Everyone in Asia lies and it’s part of social behavior.”
“Take her name for example. I knew her as Viriya or Aya, her mother called her Someny and now she is Somaly Mam. Who cares?”
“I don’t want to destroy her reputation as she did a good job and I’m proud of her. But people also need to know that there are allegations from Spain that she took a lot of donations meant for the foundation and ended up for her personal use.
“The reason I emphasize this is because AFESIP was a group of local NGOs that I established in Europe and Asia. AFESIP Spain became one of the most efficient in terms of activities in Madrid, protesting against trafficking, and in throughout Spain, to raise awareness. AFESIP Spain then facilitated fundraising with the foundation and the Spanish government, specifically the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They investigated and found some issues as to whether Somaly committed financial fraud.”
“His salary in 2011 was $125,642, which is a fortune in Cambodia.”
“The for sale in the village sign is to convince people that she is poor. It is not true. Then they will donate more money. The problem is that people in the United States believe everything they are told and do not do what they are told. make”. checking correctly. That may change now that financial fraud questions about the former AFESIP office in Madrid have been raised in Spain.”
The beginnings of the icon
“Yes, Somaly was a prostitute when I met her. Then we fell in love and that all changed.”
“UNICEF started donating money and we set up a center to help girls and women who had been trafficked into the sex industry. We all have to dream. I considered it my destiny to help other people. It is what I was, and I remain – committed to doing “.
“I was the director and organizer behind the operation, the person in the shadows, really. I knew the direction we had to go. So I took risks and encouraged Somaly to develop her freedom and escape her dictates.” cultural. I know that if you give a woman what she needs you will create a superwoman. And that’s what happened: she became an icon. Because, in reality, she is also very smart, more than me. “
“Somaly was the face of the operation, the spokesperson, the marketing machine. It was her personality that was at work. She told her story, and other stories of trafficked girls and women, so well that money started flowing into AFESIP.”
Legros went on to say that after she appeared on television many times and began to gain international recognition, he suggested that she should write a book. The book was first published in France in 2005, before it established its foundation in the United States in 2007. The Road of Lost Innocence became an instant bestseller when it was translated into English.
“I didn’t tell him what to write. It was his story, not mine. Interesting, though, that the French and English versions don’t resemble each other.”
“After the book, she was invited everywhere and met everyone who counted. Her contact list goes from Oprah, to Hilary Clinton, to the Queen of Spain and politicians from all over the world. Of course I encouraged her and I supported. She was my wife and the mother of my children. We were already separated, but I pressured her to accept the invitation to open the Special Olympics in 2005.”
Some questions about personality disorder
Starting life in a small town in Kompong Cham province where life was subsistence at best, and ending up as an international celebrity is not a journey without demands and problems.
Legros and an American psychologist who volunteered at AFESIP theorized that as Mam began to mix and mingle more and more with the rich and famous, she progressed toward developing narcissistic personality disorder (NPD). Signs of NPD include a grandiose sense of self-importance and a constant demand for attention and admiration. Other traits include exploitation of others and a complete lack of empathy.
Legros and the psychologist now suggest that Mam exhibits the full signs of NPD. In the saint-sinner debate, she is the first person to raise the issue of borderline personality issues.
“Somaly is not happy. She is a depressed woman.” Other accounts from center staff verify that she has a temper and can be explosive with minor incidents.
“The only times I came out publicly to question the lies he told was when he said that eight girls had been killed at the center. The second time was when he alleged that our adopted daughter had been gang raped. In these cases I had to put things down. clear.”
Whats Next?
Legros keeps a low profile. “I want this article to be published outside of Cambodia, because that is where most of Somaly’s supporters are. I think they need to know the truth. Here in Phnom Penh it would be too dangerous. She is very well connected and knows many high officials “. classifying people in the government, the police, and the military.
“When we broke up in 2004, she moved her bodyguard into the bedroom. He had a gun and a license to kill. I know I can disappear tomorrow, this is the Kingdom.”
Legros is currently working in Phnom Penh.
He smiles: “Eventually, I want to retire on a boat and not have too much contact with other humans. But before I do, I want to tell the true story of Somaly Mam and how she became an icon. I have a duty to do it without gray areas or lies”.
“For me, Somaly is an imposture. But in a corrupt system full of similar people, it is not a surprise.”
Improve male sexual performance in 3 simple steps

There are three things men can do to improve their sexual performance. Many times men go to see their health care provider and never discuss this important issue that weighs on the minds of so many men at one time or another. Aside from the usual diet and exercise advice, men often wonder and speculate about what they can do to help themselves perform at the top of their sexual game.
1) Eat Right: This means eating a variety of nutrient-dense foods. Many times, in an effort to be healthy, many men will try to lower their cholesterol by eliminating animal products from their diet. The problem with doing this is that the man is missing out on essential nutrients that are vital for overall sexual performance. Animal protein is particularly useful for the brain and nervous system, as it contains essential fats and proteins for the nerves. These include omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids. Some key foods that are especially good for the nervous system include eggs, meat, and oily fish like sardines and salmon. Shellfish also contain zinc, which is said to be the nutrient of virility.
Good Traffic Equals Good Sex
In addition to exercising regularly, men should strive to keep their body size within appropriate limits. Many experts use the body mass index (BMI) as a means of deciding healthy weights from unhealthy weights. The problem for men who use BMI as a means of measuring their fitness is that this measurement does not take lean muscle mass into account. Lean muscle mass weighs more than fat. So, a man may be labeled obese based on his BMI, but he actually has a very low percentage of body fat.
How should a man measure his fitness level? Men must have a waist of less than 40 inches (measured 1 inch above the hipbone). This will significantly lower your risk of cardiovascular disease which directly affects sexual performance and your ability to achieve and maintain an erection. Ideally, your waist should be around 32 inches (give or take 2 inches) depending on your body build. So in addition to regular cardio, strength training, and eating a nutrient-dense, calorie-appropriate diet. There is an exercise specifically related to your masculinity that can help improve your sexual performance.
2) That exercise is called Kegel Exercise
The pubococcygeus (PC) wraps around the base of your penis in a figure eight and around your anus. This is the muscle that allows you to stop urinating midstream. This muscle is also vitally important to the ability to achieve and maintain erections, as well as to reach orgasm. Have you heard the expression use it or lose it? That couldn’t be more true than in this department. This muscle can atrophy in men and women if not exercised regularly. The more you exercise your PC muscle, the firmer your erection can be. The way to do it is to contract the muscle and hold it for five seconds and release it. Repeat this 10 times and do at least 5-6 sets a day. Kegel exercises restore muscle tone and strength in the PC muscle. The next time you see a health care provider for an annual physical, you can ask if you’re doing it correctly if you’re still not sure.
There is more to the male genitalia than just the penis and testicles
About 1 to 2 inches behind the bladder is an organ that is often overlooked in terms of male health until something serious happens and it needs to be removed. That organ is the prostate. The prostate is a vitally important gland responsible for the volume of semen produced during an ejaculation. In fact, the prostate constitutes 70% of the ejaculate. That said, it should be seen before the age of 50, when you would normally first see it.
3) Again, prostate massage is increasingly recommended as researchers find that prostate massage complements and increases the effectiveness of antibiotics when used to treat chronic prostatitis. Many find that prostate massage itself is successful where other remedies have failed. Or you prefer massage instead of long-term medication. Prostate massage can relieve symptoms, improve blood circulation to the prostate, help drain the glans, promote bladder health, and improve sexual abilities. Why? Because a large part of sexual function depends on circulation, as mentioned above.
Prostate massage can be used as a health promoting therapeutic strategy by increasing circulation to the prostate gland. Like a massage on the rest of your body, it has a therapeutic effect on your muscles and your general well-being. It can be done 1 to 3 times a week to relieve symptoms of chronic prostatitis. There is also some data to suggest that prostate massage may be helpful in treating premature ejaculation. If you do not have any symptoms and would like to reap the benefits of a prostate massage, anywhere from once a week to twice a month is sufficient to promote prostate health.
A word of caution about prostate massage
While this has its benefits, it’s very important to make sure you don’t have a condition called acute prostatitis, as it can cause a serious infection that requires hospitalization. For this reason, it is recommended that you only see an experienced health care provider, such as a nurse practitioner (NP) or physician (MD or DO). Not all medical providers perform this service because it is not usually covered by insurance and takes a little time. It may take up to 20 minutes for drainage to occur. It is possible to find an NP or MD/DO who does not accept insurance anyway and is willing to do so. Some masseuses have been trained in this special massage technique. They are a suitable and alternative. If this is done with too much force, significant damage (bleeding and tearing) can result. It should be done with no more pressure than you put on your eyeball.
The three steps men can take to improve their sexual performance. Eat right, do the Kegal exercise, and get a prostate massage from a qualified health care provider.

Campus Calm had the opportunity to speak with Carleton Kendrick, Ed.M., LCSW, about why students are increasingly poised for success and the price they pay in the process. Kendrick, author of “Take Your Nose Ring Off Honey, We’re Going to Grandma’s” (Unlimited Publishing LLC), is a licensed psychotherapist, prominent national speaker, social commentator, and author.
Calm Campus: Our first question stems from your article, “High Achievers: What Price Are They Paying? A Harvard Interviewer’s Honest Assessment,” which was published on FamilyEducation.com. Why does he believe today’s high school and college students are increasingly primed for success?
Kendrick: Because there are too many parents who are scared, guilt-ridden, and anxious about whether or not they can guarantee that their children will get into the “best” colleges and have a “wonderful life.” I think much of the hyper-parenting that this pressure cooker produces in children is due more to guilt than anything else. It is the result of parents feeling that they do not spend enough time with their children and that they are not really “good enough” parents.
So if you can’t have loving, fully realized intimate relationships with your children, you can make up for them by treating them, with good intentions, but nonetheless like a commodity, eventually to be “bought” by a university. . You can do this by micromanaging your life from preschool onward. That includes telling them what courses to take, forcing them to excel in a sport, maybe even a position. Some children are sent to summer camps at very young ages to specifically learn skills that have to do with a specific position for a sport, instead of the children playing. There is no time to play now because you have to take care of building your portfolio of successes. Some parents are obsessed with this.
Calm Campus: Is this distributed among all social classes?
Kendrick: In my research and professional experience, this is an obsession that is certainly more pervasive in the “wealthy” classes, although the contagion spreads up and down in all classes. Prestigious scholarships, usually only the wealthy can afford elite schools and camps. Money is a factor and buying into the notion that the right college will give you a great life. Of course, that totally delusional belief is sometimes adopted by people who don’t have money and don’t have a higher educational level.
Calm Campus: What’s the harm in packaging children for success?
Kendrick: Well, I think when you’re handled like a detergent, being created, packaged and sold by an advertising company, it’s dehumanizing at the core. It is an orchestrated attempt at authorship that someone naturally is. He communicates to the children, “You’re not okay the way you present yourself. You need something or someone to trick you.” I think it’s unnatural and ultimately dehumanizing to take kids and basically tell them they’re not good enough the way they are.
Calm Campus: If some parents have hovered over their children for years and now realize it was a mistake, how could they change their relationship with their teens? When your children are used to having their lives scheduled and planned, can they easily switch to being more independent?
Kendrick: These parents have often greatly incapacitated their children, encouraging an unhealthy dependency and relying on them to direct most aspects of their children’s lives. That said, many, if not most, of my adolescent patients, as well as the adolescents I speak with in my seminars, would appreciate it if their parents would stop micromanaging their lives.
I would recommend that parents have a series of conversations with their teens in which they acknowledge their mistakes as restless, micro-managing, anxious parents, and the damage this suffocating parenting has done to their children. Then, I would have the parents tell the children that their role will be supportive, encouraging, and directed at cultivating their teens’ resourcefulness, independence, and resilience. Parents will go through some forms of emotional withdrawal from their former roles as managers of their children’s lives, and teens need to understand that this transition will likely be more difficult for their parents than it is for them.
Calm Campus: How can students begin to see education as an end in itself and not simply as a means to a well-paying job with all the status and supposed happiness that comes with it?
Kendrick: It is very difficult for students when so many people tell them, “This is the path to success.” You go to this school or a school like this. Then they may tell you that you need to go to grad school. You also need to do summer work that shows the schools you’re applying to that you’re dead serious, whether you are or not. This is the equation; this is the formula. Just plug into this and you are guaranteed to have a rosy life.
At some point, we miss teaching children that it is in the process; it is in the challenge and hard work to learn something. The best experience my daughter had in school was working so hard to get a B in Physics when she got A’s in basically everything else. She was more proud of that B- because physics was something she didn’t like so easily. The other things came easy to her, which means they didn’t necessarily challenge her intellectually. Now someone could have looked at her report card and said, “Hey, what happened here with that B-?”
Calm Campus: Each student excels in one area and struggles in another. How can parents and educators encourage them to define and improve their unique abilities without ever labeling them “lazy” or “dumb” in areas they may have trouble with?
Kendrick: There has to be a paradigm shift here and the paradigm shift has to be from the beginning with parents and educators, and whoever comes across the child. I’ve seen enough children to know that children show you who they are very early on and if you’re not paying attention to who they really are, meaning their curiosities and the natural rhythms of their life, and instead you have your role model for them and you basically ignore the natural life of the child’s mind, so you are trying to get the wiring out of your child.
The paradigm shift needs to be in the emphasis on further encouraging and emphasizing the child’s natural abilities and interests and the skill set they are shown early on. That does not mean that you neglect what they could have problems with. You acknowledge their “deficits” but don’t make them the center of attention. Nobody does well at everything.
Calm Campus: A teacher recently wrote me to say that she sees students more stressed than ever about grades. Some of her students started crying when they got a “B” on a test because they were afraid to go home and face their parents. How has this happened and what can we do about it?
Kendrick: We need to change the way we raise our children so that they see the word success. Most people would say that Mother Teresa was successful. Now, if you look at Mother Teresa’s academic background, you won’t see Mother Teresa sweeping any academic institution. Shall we consider that she gave much to the world? Would we consider that the musicians and artists we revere who never finished high school gave so much to the world?
“Wait,” many adults say, “don’t encourage children to think they don’t have to go to school.” That’s not the point. It’s that we all have some inherent abilities and we encourage them and maybe show kids how they can manifest those abilities and tie them together with some sense of purpose and mission that’s rewarding for them, not for their parents and society at large.
Calm Campus: The only way to achieve success in life is to make mistakes and learn to deal with the occasional failure. Do you think that our educational system encourages students to learn to handle this notion? If not, how can schools work to help children take risks and appreciate mistakes as part of the process?
Kendrick: We need kids to know that challenges don’t always equate to an honors grade. It takes bravery and courage and being vulnerable. We need to teach children to be open to “failure.” If you’re only being applauded for your honors, or the schools you get into, or the money you make, doesn’t that put a lot of pressure on what happens when you don’t?
Calm Campus: I want to switch gears for a moment and talk about perfectionism and how it contributes to both male and female students developing unhealthy body images. Campus Calm believes that self-love is a driving force behind success in life. How can young people develop healthy relationships with their bodies and with themselves despite our culture’s preoccupation with outward perfection?
Kendrick: How can a young person who seeks to be appreciated, loved and desired? How do you tell him not to buy the magazine covers and the music videos and that culture of perfection? He is pointing out again that there is something wrong with you. You are in the academic average and now you are not thin enough or your breasts are not big enough or your hair is not straight enough. Or a kid, because I’ve seen a lot of kids take steroids: “You’re not tough and strong enough.” I don’t have any magic answer to how children can’t be seduced into hating, loathing, and loathing of their bodies.
All I can say is that when you can make friends and build relationships that have nothing to do with how popular you are socially perceived, how much of a hero you are athletically, or how much of an academic star you are, keep them around because they are then appreciating you. Whether you put on 30 pounds, get a cap on your teeth or not, whether your dad drives the newest car.
Especially in the area of adolescence, it is our friends more than anyone else who help determine our sense of self. If you can find in your travels someone who truly appreciates you for who you are and who you truly want to be known for, know that this is the essence of meaningful relationships despite the seduction of perfection. Look for those relationships with friends, as they will help you define yourself around those things that you do not have to fine-tune.
Believing that Candida treatment can surely cure your yeast infections

There are many people who have said that their candida was cured by some candida treatment method, by Dr. Piller/Blinzler, by electromedicine (464 hertz), by diet, by massive probiotics, by Threelac, another by fresh fruit just for six weeks. If people want to say they’re cured, I’d rather believe them than sit and wonder, just to make sure there is no cure. There are many people who say that they have also cured their cancers. Who is anyone here to say that these people are being dishonest or trying for personal gain?
The only profit I see is the doctors/nutritionists who have never had thrush but have treated many and are now writing books on the subject for $20 each. Part of the protocol for overcoming any illness is a positive attitude and a willingness to believe that health can be restored. How many people who keep adding negative thoughts really believe that they can be healthy? How many people actually follow the show for more than a week without a slip?
I know I don’t have many times, so I didn’t get rid of this problem. But I was the reason I didn’t get rid of him. No one has forced me to give up any money unwillingly. No one has ripped me off. I researched, wanted to try it, and paid the price. My only problem is me and my clothes. Until you actually change your lifestyle completely for the prescribed time, you will not get rid of this problem.
Health is possible, unless you believe it is not. A self-fulfilling prophecy, which means that you are in charge of your own health. I hope that there are still many people who want to share, learn and get support.

If you’re considering adding a family pet to your home, consider your child’s age and personality and how much work your child would reasonably do to care for an animal. Most pets require some type of adult supervision, and you shouldn’t just assume your child is doing the right thing and taking proper care of them. Unless your child is older and quite responsible, you should assume that caring for and feeding a pet will be the responsibility of many family members.
Owning a pet has pros and cons, so think carefully about how much time and money you’re willing to commit to owning an animal before you buy one. Keep in mind that routine veterinary care should be a regular part of any pet’s life and can be expensive, especially if there is a problem. Some animals, like fish, don’t necessarily need veterinary care per se, but that doesn’t mean their survival requirements still need to be met.
Here are some ideas for family pets to consider:
Reptiles: Do not buy a reptile from a child under 16! We’re not targeting turtles, snakes, and lizards as they make fantastic pets, but these are creatures that harbor the potential for salmonella. A small child may excitedly grab his pet turtle and then put his hands in his mouth after touching it without washing his hands. The reptiles are strictly for older teens who understand a sense of responsibility and will wash their hands after handling them to avoid life-threatening illnesses.
Rodents: Hamsters look cute and furry, and you can get them all kinds of neat quarters with fun climbing tubes and a wheel to run on. However, what most people don’t realize is that hamsters bite hard. If you are interested in a pet that belongs to the rodent family, consider a gerbil instead, as they are much more docile and fairly easy to care for. Beware of a smaller child holding the little critter too tightly and make sure an adult is present, as you would be surprised how easily a rodent can slip out of a child’s hands and quickly get lost in a house never to be found again. For a teenager, you’ll find that rats actually make great pets to keep and can become relatively tame. The only downside is that if your teen isn’t responsible for cleaning the cage every week, rat poop and pee can take on an unpleasant odor that will permeate the room quickly. Keep in mind that rodents breed quickly, so buy just one unless you want babies to invade quickly. Also, do not mix rodents from different litters, as they can become very aggressive with each other.
Dog: Do not expect a child of any age to walk, brush or clean up after a dog or cat. It is a great responsibility that the whole family must take care of. If you are not willing to cooperate here, opt for a pet that is easier to care for. Do careful research on dog breeds to see if they are compatible with your family. A Labrador is certainly an easy-to-train dog that is good with children, but are you prepared to deal with loose hair all over the house? Sure a Husky has lovable blue eyes and a goofy face, but do you have the experience to train a dog that is considered stubborn and high-energy and requires a lot of exercise?
Cat – If you have a busy family that spends long hours at work or away from home, a dog may not be the best option as they are pack animals and want to be part of the family unit. If no one is home for 8-hour periods, a dog is likely to get bored, destructive, and not think to tear up that beautiful couch. In this case, opt for a house cat who certainly doesn’t mind being alone and taking long naps while waiting for you to come home. Keep in mind that most cats don’t like to be handled roughly and are not really suitable for a home with very young children or babies. A cat will not hesitate to scratch or bite a youngster who is pulling on its tail. Shelters have a lot of kittens looking for a good home, so don’t hesitate to adopt one.
Fish: Although you can buy a fish for just a few dollars at a pet store, the hobby can get expensive when you consider the costs of a tank, filtration, heating, and other accessories that many types of fish require. Also, partial weekly water changes are necessary and can be messy if handled by a careless youngster. Don’t be fooled by the idea that those attractive African cichlids or neon tetras can live in a fish tank on the counter. Many of these fish require specific water conditions, so unless you and your child are ready to commit to a pet like this, try something else. However, if you’re looking for a super easy fish to care for, nothing beats a Siamese Fighting Fish (also known as a Betta). They are brightly colored and super hardy as long as you change the water every week, use a dechlorinator for your tap water, and feed them properly. Oh and just keep a male in a bowl, they don’t call them fighting fish for nothing!
Birds – A charming parakeet can be a fun pet for a child and can be relatively inexpensive to keep. Cages come in all sorts of price ranges to suit any budget, and seed is inexpensive. Budgies can be trained to talk and sit on your hand if you make them young and persistently work with them. If you plan to let them out of their cage, it’s best to learn to clip one or both wings so the bird can scoot to the ground and not fly into walls or windows and seriously injure itself. A small child should not squeeze or hold a small and delicate bird like this because it could hurt the little creature. And you might be surprised to note that even a bird as small as a parakeet can make a sound when startled. Parrots are definitely not pets for young children, as they can be very aggressive and easily bite the finger of an unsuspecting child who sticks a curious finger in the cage. Parrots require expert handling to bond with a person in the home and can be downright unpleasant to other members of the family. These birds are long-lived (80+ is not uncommon), and they can also be noisy and messy while throwing their food. Lovebirds, cockatoos, and other similar birds can also make good pets for a child with a strong sense of responsibility.

When it comes to managing a commercial property today, controls and efficiency will help you provide professional service to your clients. More particularly, all your systems must be well documented and relevant to each type of property.
This then suggests that particular checklists will apply to office property, commercial property and industrial property. Checklists will also be different when it comes to property management with lease payments.
Here are some tips to help you establish a strong monitoring process as part of your agency’s property management services.
- Leasing documentation should always be reviewed when it comes to taking over the management of a new property. In many cases, you will find that documentation is missing in some way or that critical dates have not been met. If someone gives you a lease schedule as part of the property handover, make sure the schedule is fully cross-checked with your existing lease documentation. You should also understand that lease documents are not the only documents related to occupancy. You can and usually will find special documents related to the licensed occupancy, and which would normally include car parking, signage, storage, and special use areas. These documents can be separated from the lease documentation.
- Check property arrears as part of the delivery process. Any existing backlog should be quantified for any action that may be required. Request copies of any documentation and letters that relate to the arrears search. If special agreements have been made with existing arrears, you will need a copy of the documentation.
- Get to know the tenants and the property as soon as possible. When it comes to changing property managers, tenants can be quite sensitive to new arrangements and new people. Personally introduce yourself to tenants at a Property Delivery diary.
- Understand what the owner requires from reports and approvals. Each owner will be unique and different when it comes to the communication and reporting process. Some owners will have special cash flow requirements and reports to substantiate cash flow. In complex properties with multiple tenants, this can become quite a challenge. Make sure the property manager you choose has the experience to meet the owner’s demands.
- Talk to the maintenance people involved with the property as soon as possible. They will tell you a lot about the property today and possible maintenance failures in the future. This information will help you plan for cash flow and expenses in the coming years. Ask maintenance staff about specific plant and equipment factors that are critical to property performance. Any older plant and equipment should be closely monitored for potential failures.
- Outgoing management forms part of the real estate management control base. Property expenses must be managed within the building budget and the requirements of any and all lease documents. Many leases will have different control and reporting factors when it comes to cost recovery. For this very reason, all lease documents should be carefully examined as part of the property takeover procedure.
- The history of the property will always be relevant. Obtain copies of previous reports, financial activity, and lease documentation when possible. This information will help you when it comes to establishing the status of the existing tenancy mix and how the property can go forward as an investment.
- Income and expense budgets can be current or this year. Those budgets must be passed on to new owners and property managers. This way you will know how existing outgoing fetches have been set and on what basis.
- Vacancy reports and strategies will vary throughout the year. Importantly, any vacant area is successfully marketed to reduce vacancy downtime. Any pending or upcoming vacant leases should be aggressively marketed to find the necessary new tenants.
- Lease review profiles and option strategies will be reviewed as part of the lease documentation scrutiny. Find all critical dates related to rental reviews and option deadlines. Critical dates need to be entered into some kind of journaling system so you can trigger the event early or on time.
Professional commercial property management services are only achieved through systematic actions and well-qualified people. Take steps to establish your own systems as early in the property management process as possible. These items above can be modified and expanded depending on the type of property and the location of the property.
Exumas State of Mind – Engine trouble en route to paradise

It’s one of those days… perfect. Sailing over New York and Philadelphia at 8,500 with 80 miles of visibility and calm air. Heading south down the coast of the Bahamas, I’m playing my usual game of how many turns it takes when flying VFR. Direct PXT direct CHS, I can book the first 600 nautical miles with a 5 degree course change.
The “tingles” I used to feel as a child at Christmas get stronger as I head to the home of my soul, the Bahamas. This country can boil life down to the basics, and pilots and sailors find peace in this subtropical paradise. Simple is a good thing sometimes, and I’m looking forward to shaking off information culture for a few days.
If this sky has a downtown, that’s where I’m headed tomorrow. The 100-nautical-mile chain of 360 jewel islands known as the Exumas features some of the most beautiful shades of blue you’ll ever see. Bounded on the north by Norman’s Key, which curves SE to Georgetown, Great Exuma, the island’s options can suit any escapist mood.
I’m headed to Staniel Cay on this trip, right on the southern tip of Bahamas Land and Sea Park. Staniel Cay gives me a good track with access to the park, on a small but attractive island.
On my last leg, on the way past Andros, my optimistic mood suddenly sank… what’s that blinking light telling me? My ever-dark warning panel was flashing a low voltage warning, backed up by my amp needle and JPI. Time to get serious, as I break down the basics of alternator failure, load shedding, and breaker reset. You have to think about the options: return to the US possibly without a transponder or radio, or land and get stuck. Nothing I tried during the flight helped to solve the problem.
Since my destination was in sight and I knew I could monitor battery depletion using just GPS and a radio, I decided to go ahead and land at Staniel Cay. I felt worried, reaching the ramp in the hot midday sun. The Bahamas is known for many things, but aircraft repair is not high on the list. My best guess was that the regulator failed due to the intermittent nature of the power failure. A belt failure would have caused a constant discharge. The cell phone worked, so I had good communication at home. My first call was to Banyan Air Service from FXE. One Saturday afternoon I was connected directly to a mechanic, Terry, who listened to my story. While he was ranting about sending dimmers and airplanes to the rescue, he stopped me and simply said, “Pull on the cover, I think it’s a loose wire.”
That seemed too simple, but following his advice, there it was, a loose exciter wire. My handful of tools and tie-down straps fixed the harness temporarily and the trip was saved.
So what makes Staniel Cay so special? Think of Block Island in the south, for those who have been on that lovely New England getaway. Unlike much of the Bahamas, Staniel Cay is hilly, and walking around produces constant views of the ocean and town. Snorkeling in “Thunderball Cave” (yes, where the movie was filmed) has you surrounded by thousands of colorful fish. You can immerse yourself in the spooky yet impressive grotto, imagining you’re James himself on a top-secret mission.
The Staniel Cay (pronounced: key) yacht club is a well-oiled and very laid-back island resort. 5 colorful cabins sit on the water’s edge and have their own docks with Boston Whalers. The yacht club houses a bar and restaurant and serves some of the best food to be found anywhere in the area. Just thinking about his rack of lamb for dinner, after a hard day of snorkeling and body surfing, makes me weak in the knees. It is not unusual to see a yacht moored that a family of 12 would find spacious, and this probably helps keep quality control at such an impressive level. Remember, as you sip your ice cold Kalik and watch the tropical sun sink into the water, everything here is imported. Comparing costs to states isn’t really fair, but with that said, I try to bring my own supplies…
Mary Lou, the nurse at the local infirmary told me:
“People often come here for minor cuts or bug bites. When I check their blood pressure and tell them a lower reading than they’ve ever heard, they think my equipment is broken. The fact that they’ve slowed down and They’ve relaxed that much, it’s a revelation.”
Yes, island life moves comfortably at a slow pace, but things are changing. While I was there, all the roads on the key were being paved. This allows for a smoother golf cart ride, but is a sign of bigger changes. My advice is to experience the real thing soon, before Club Med, speedy jet skis and organized tourism “bloom” the place.
